Watch the Birdy-Dog
Interior sexed up with some placards, piping, padding and belts.
Engine was tricky to place and involved breaking a mounting tube, but it’s better aligned for it. Kit has many misalignment issues.
Ceiling complete- PVA glue for transparencies.
Tricky positioning for all glazing. Much dry testing and use of persuasive techniques
Pretty much assembled-just primed with Mr Surfacer 1000 50-50 with cellulose thinners. Gone down well- a new technique for me.
After this a little black pre-shade
Let’s see if we can pull this off: metaphorically and physically!….. I chose this method as I thought the scale would benefit from it.
Saved for the over fill once all colours are down.
All masks in place
It was a tricky operation to do it this way, I guess I could’ve sprayed the black against the grey, but decided the other way ‘round
ADC grey, up next…,,
ADC grey from AK Air was gloopy and needed thinning 50/50 with Vallejo’s airbrush thinner. Taken several coats to blend everything in
Rockets and wheels also done ready for some details to be picked out
The gamble seems to have paid off- those vinyl and kabuki masks did their trick.
Decals?…who needs ‘em?…
noting the configuration of rockets/launchers and associated piping. Will try and emulate.
On short finals now. Some touching up and a light weathering should do it.
The doors and windows were tricky to close at this later stage and look good in scale. As I’d spent some time on the interior I wanted to open the door a fraction and allow the view inside
Pleased my client wanted to have the rockets put on. A little scratch building for the detonation wires makes for a Bird Dog with teeth
Passing the outer marker…a light weathering and we’re good for delivery to my client- pilot friend.
Landed Da Nang1966
Just the lightest of weathering touches around the wheels and lower fuselage areas
welcome aboard....?
My happy customer. He has his eye on a 1:1 scale one!!

Thanks Robert and Co., this may be a slow burn, so forgive me a meander on this one?….

Robert, you are Mr. Motivator on here!! always enjoy you turning up at my builds!
bughunter: to have a kind comment from a "Master"- nay Wizzard, such as you is a pleasure. We're all stretching our skills sets on here, I guess, on every build we do.

You're doing a great job. 👍 I know from my own experience that large scales (1:32, 1:24 ...) do not forgive mistakes. I am very curious to see the finished model. I'm sure it will be a beauty.

Thanks Ludvík, I'm hoping my patreon will enjoy it too. There are a few mistakes, sure, but I'll try and hide them with some weathering.

Aww, thanks Robert...it will be equally impressive in 72nd...seem to remember building the Airfix one in c. 1976...and Guy: back at'cha! you're doing some pretty sterling work at the moment...Neil: I learned your lesson regarding the superglue application from your Panther...employed on this build...and thanks for having a look too!

I liked what you did with the masks during the build, but with all the final additions it's even better 👍

@bughunter - they were tricky and a reasonably new technique for me… and worthy of these larger scales. I hope to perfect them - similar to those on your builds..you're quite an inspiration!

Thanks Rui, David and Michael- not a scale or model brand I'm used to. Think it worked well in the end, and I managed to try some new techniques.
