Ryfield Models T34/85 - Construction
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/5/8/9/1468589-64925-41-720.jpg)
It begins... Don't let me down Ryfield...
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/5/9/0/1468590-64925-15-720.jpg)
One of the suspension arms was missing its projection that couples with the spring member within the hull... Drilled the end out and made up with styrene rod... No biggy...
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/8/5/0/1469850-64925-69-720.jpg)
Cast and rolled steel textures underway...
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/8/5/1/1469851-64925-51-720.jpg)
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/8/5/2/1469852-64925-94-720.jpg)
Possibly the easiest hull to practice textures on...
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/8/5/3/1469853-64925-74-720.jpg)
Hull is slightly warped but nothing to be alarmed about... Nothing tape can't pull down in due course...

Resribing for epoxy welds to the turret seams
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/4/7/1/1470471-64925-68-720.jpg)
Weld seams included on most parts... Noice..!
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/4/7/2/1470472-64925-96-720.jpg)
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/4/7/3/1470473-64925-18-720.jpg)
Some of the cast textures are quite good...

PE to the rear grill included in the kit... Will be going on soon...

I'm a little concerned at the fitment of the back plate... Looks a little gappy... Time will tell once I close up the hull... Might need to fill with sprue goo and resribe the joint between the plates...
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/7/5/3/1471753-64925-14-720.jpg)
Lookin good

![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/7/5/5/1471755-64925-89-720.jpg)
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/7/5/9/1471759-64925-24-720.jpg)
The one peice barrel was a bit soft and misaligned to its muzzle... Considered chopping the muzzle off and replacing with styrene tubing... But opted just to rewcribe the junction to diffuse the joint...
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/7/6/1/1471761-64925-15-720.jpg)
Some of the call outs on the instructions seem to be incorrect... But going off the cad dwg and matching the shape in order to choose the correct hatch from the 2 supplied was needed... Low and behold in the following step it shows the other hatch...
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/7/6/4/1471764-64925-17-720.jpg)
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/7/6/6/1471766-64925-40-720.jpg)
Randomly you need to slice several bolt heads from a sprue and apply to the back plate at the holes... Another oddity... Must be several varants with this kit as the rest of the back plate has its bolts...
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/7/6/7/1471767-64925-42-720.jpg)
There are 4 vents through the cast steel guarding could be modelled open so you could peer through the photoetch grill into the engine bay... But you probably wouldn't see much though...
![Album image #39 Album image #39](/albums/img/7/6/8/1471768-64925-28-720.jpg)
![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/7/6/9/1471769-64925-60-720.jpg)
Watch out for the periscopes to the turret... They're a bit oversized for their mounting and can crack the frail parts that make up their housings...
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/7/7/0/1471770-64925-92-720.jpg)
Road wheels were a bit of an odd design... Mismoulds here and there... Will require a pin wash of putty between the tire and rim interface...
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/7/7/1/1471771-64925-85-720.jpg)
Gotta say I was never much of a fan for soviet armour but she's growing on me... Lol
![Album image #43 Album image #43](/albums/img/7/7/2/1471772-64925-60-720.jpg)
![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/7/7/3/1471773-64925-38-720.jpg)
Turret almost complete... Some oddities in how Ryfield went about it... But none the less it's built up fairly well... Although some very small parts to clean and bond in the assembly..
![Album image #45 Album image #45](/albums/img/4/3/7/1472437-64925-82-720.jpg)
Mould seam along the spare track was a bit heavy and had to remove the studs along with it... Replace the studs with aluminium rivets using a 0.8mm drill bit as a punch and the thick aluminium you find in Milo or Coffee tins... Drilled the end tracks out with a 0.5mm drill then passed a 0.4mm peice of copper through to emulate a spare stud within the track...
![Album image #46 Album image #46](/albums/img/4/3/8/1472438-64925-56-720.jpg)
PE Grill and the detailed spare track....
![Album image #47 Album image #47](/albums/img/4/3/9/1472439-64925-65-720.jpg)
![Album image #48 Album image #48](/albums/img/4/4/0/1472440-64925-86-720.jpg)
PE Grill is very fine and delicate... You'll need to roll it to match the curvature of rhe guard... I rolled it using a large stainless steel sewing needle whilst the PE Grill sat on an eraser as a soft bed to allow it to conform...

Rear hangers were replaced with 0.4mm copper wire bent to shape... Fortunately my PE Bender had a finger that matched the width of the hanger fairly well...

I lost one of the PE Handles to the rear tanks... Just as I was cleaning up my desk ready for paint it turned up... Last peice to bond on and we're all good for priming...

The rear hatch with the PE Grill has been left loose so I can squirt some black paint inside and around the surfaces under...

And she's built... First Soviet Subject and Ryfield Models kit.. I'd give it a solid 7.5 outta 10... Little bit of flash... Mismoulds... Mistakes and vague instructions at times...Minor warping... And some odd choice of engineering... Fit was tight but could've been better... If your in the market for a T34 isn't bad but just don't pay too much for it like I did being impulsive... All in all a good build... Time for some colour...!

Hey Cortex... Quite a nice kit mate... Very good quality and the fit is great... Quite impressed when I opened the box... So much so I wanted to build it straight away... This is my first Ryfield kit and it's shaping up very well... I couldn't comment on its accuracy however as its also my first soviet subject... But highly recommended none the less...
