I'll use the Aires detail set to enhance the cockpit and open up both engines. The new resin wheel well set from Starfighter will make a huge difference - there are no wheel well details at all in the kit. I'll also re-scribe and remove the raised panel lines.

Me too! The detail set is amazing! Two complete resin engines, and you have to attach each cylinder head onto the crankcase individually. Photoetch for the ignition rings, lots of wiring, etc. Also includes resin cowls and engine mounts. Cockpit and wheel wells look fantastic too! I guess it was worth the $50! 🙂

I've begun removing the resin parts from their pour blocks. The Aires resin is very well moulded, I'm not seeing any bubbles or short shots. Having a quick look at the Monogram Tigercat kit, it matches my drawings quite well, so I don't think there will be any big modifications necessary. Oddly, the bottom of both wings have recessed panel lines, but everything else is raised. Weird, especially for 1967 when this kit was first released.

Moin Bill, I have never seen such a clean workbench! Do you build this one or do you sort parts? 🙂

Acki - I pushed all of the trash over to the side so you can't see it in the picture! 🙂

Holger - I'm not sure what is in the Verlinden box. I bought that about 15 years ago, and it's been sitting on the bench all this time. I've forgotten about it. I will have a look and let you know! 🙂

Hey, Bill...I don't see any weights on that table.
*
I just finished assembling the wing units and dry fit them to the wingroots of the assembled fuselage......severe tail-sitting. Since I've already closed up the nose, I have only the engine nacelles and I don't think that even if I load them full with buckshot that it'll do the trick to make this craft sit right on its tricycle undercarriage.

Don't worry about it, Kelly. The real Tigercats were so tail heavy that they would also rest on their tails if they weren't full of fuel, etc. Just model it that way. Good conversation starter. 🙂
Or you could weight the front down like this:

It's just that so many instructional films have inserted warnings about "now, don't try this at home, kids", so I thought I'd get that outta the way toot sweet.
I just ran through my Tigercat kit and finished assembling it. It is not yet painted, and I'm not sure i will paint it. I quit worrying about the taildragging when I realized that it looks just fine when it is teetering on the included 'stand'. But then, it won't be anywhere as near jiffy-snifty as your completed kit, even if I paint the 'stand' with chrome silver....
Do you intend to use those weights on your kit?
