Hi Christian. My father is no longer alive to ask but he volunteered to be trained on the use of radar in 1941/42 and was posted to HMS Belfast sometime in 1942. The ship was involved in protection of Arctic convoys and he was on the ship during the Battle of North Cape, which resulted in the sinking of the German battleship Scharnhorst. He spent his 22nd birthday off Normandy where the Belfast was involved in the first shore bombardment for D-Day, 6th June 1944. I think he served on the Belfast until the end of the war. I did request some information from the naval records and I hope to add more details of his service when I know them.
