This is an older project from 2016 that I happen to have some photos of.

As I remember it, this should be one of the Hobby Boss' kits in 1:350 scale. I had fun adding a nice gloss coat using 'Humbrol Clear' with a few layers, using low psi (about 7 psi) and an el cheapo airbrush.

The diffuse surface effect was made when airbrushing on Vallejo Satin varnish over the gloss coat. I made sure to add another layer of matte varnish for the non slip surfaces.

The nameplate looks great after first airbrushing on paint, and then gently sanding the off the brass photo etch. The model was sealed with gloss coat and maybe a little varnish. Some touch up with a small brush and a little bit of black paint was required to fix some tiny scratches from the sanding.

A fun thing one can do with ship kits, is to greatly improve the usually badly molded propellers, making the edges sharp and a lot more realistic. Somehow I think I forgot doing that on this particular project, unsure.

This was more like a fun project, than some museum worthy kit piece, and I was new with using an airbrush.

I will probably use a more rubber like black paint for my future submarine kits and try out adding some weathering.
