My build of this Italeri P-38J Lightning is done. I’ve finished it in Olive Drab camouflage depicting the D-Day ground attack aircraft, “BAMBI” as flown by the USAAF 338th Fighter Squadron in 1944.
Knowing it to be a tail sitter, I decided to rework the undercarriage to display it wheels up. In this configuration, to me, it looks really sleek in the painted plastic but feel it’s difficult to really see its beauty on a stand, but until I find an anti gravity solution this is how I need to display it ?
I also had to recruit a pilot from my spares box which has enabled me to repurpose the supplied decal harnesses for another build. I don’t know why more companies don’t provide these rather than instrument panels which, in my experience can never be seen.
I fitted drop tanks as just after D-Day Allied planes were still flying the channel while airfields were built and just check out those rocket launchers which I fitted as an alternative to bombs!
