Presumably a good-enough decal softener will help against silvering, where silvering is air tapped under the decal because of the rough texture of the painted surface.
Solvaset = stronger decal softener
MicroSol = default decal softener?

After applying a decal softener, the decals MUST NOT be touched, even if it starts looking wrinkly. The wrinkles all disappear after a while.

One thing I like to do after airbrushing on primer and also paint, is to gently go over with sanding sponge, but never over edges as that will surely removed paint off the plastic, but large flat surfaces are typically safe to sand down very gently, to create a more flat surface. For this to work, it is important that the base layer, the primer paint, is sanded flat first, else the uneven primer paint will show through the paint layer, if you only sand the paint layer on top.

I'm using Tamiya Mark Fit Super Strong. Just apply the softener to the surface of the decal and after a couple of minutes, gently press it onto the surface with a cotton swab. If the decal is not welded, then it may fall off in pieces along with the varnish 🙁 .

Probably, I don't know anything about the real car so followed the instructions blindly. That is an unfortunate and glaring error I will forever be ashamed of. Thank you for pointing it out. I will do better next time 🙁

Sorry for the rear lights. But you could easyly paint the lower part with red and that will fit perfectly to the California license plate. In the US the rear lights were also available in red only (at least through a car parts store) 😉 That is what I would do. The Beetle looks georgeous.

Christian, I will live with the reminder of my mistake instead of risking making things worse by trying to either remove the lenses or paint the exterior of them. It's unfortunate, but inevitable being only a few years into the hobby I will suffer these pitfalls. That is the only way I can learn.

Thanks gary for your idea to use buff. I can see a difference but it's barely noticeable in the photos.
Maybe I should use more buff but I'll wait and see what the whole scene looks like with resin water and water lilies.

Harald. I put the two side by side to show the differences in the paint. It was an eye opener to see how there was so much variation on such a color!

Giannis, I used X-19 + X-24 using a 5:1 ratio. Perhaps a 4:1 would have worked better. I'll note this in the pictures for reference.
