I have a soft spot for bridge layers (a Biber being the first model I bought and build when I restarted modelling), so I gotta follow this one. 🙂

I bought a whole bunch of them something like 15 years ago, mostly these two types of tin but even one or two with the very old tartan stripes — see robdebie.home.xs4all.nl/models/humbrol.htm 🙂 And as you might expect, even though these tins are something like 35–50 years old by now, after some lengthy and vigorous, yet careful, stirring, they're still perfectly usable. The only problem is that I don't really WANT to use them because they will run out eventually and there is no replacement 🙁

I would very much recommend it — just not as your first-ever 1:35 scale armour kit 😉 Like all AFV Club kits it needs a good degree of experience, but if you have that, it'll build into a very good model, IMHO.

There's a small sheet of etched parts, for things like the sight "cage" on the turret roof (won't be on my model because the real tank seems to have lacked it), stops for the driver's hatch, straps for the oil cans on the rear mudguards, etc.

Thanks 🙂 BTW, you can check the instructions that I uploaded to this site to see where exactly the etched bits go. IMHO they've been used sensibly, in that they're only for parts where they will make an actual difference in appearance.

Thanks. I didn't measure the height when I hooked them up last night, but the real bridge was about 10 m long, so in 1:35 that's around 29 cm; it's held at approximately 45° meaning the model is in the order of sin(45°) × 29 cm = 21 cm high, plus ca. 1 cm that the pivot point will be above the ground when the model is on its tracks.
The model is still resting on the styrofoam here, but the counterweight I put into the rear of the hull is clearly enough. If it wasn't, the whole thing would have tilted forward along the edge of the foam 🙂
I do wonder where I'm going to keep this, though …

Thanks 🙂 Not much more to do now … I need to wait for some glue and paint to dry, then I can hook the bridge to the tank, winch it up, and connect the cable to the block. A little bit more painting, and then all it needs is a figure — which I have on order, so I can't fit that just yet.

Now I got the bridge attached to the tank, I can definitively answer @Doubtingmango's question from a while ago: the whole model is 20.5 cm high when assembled, about 45 cm long, and 10 cm wide 🙂

The bridge is included in the kit — AFV Club already had a Churchill AVRE, and then released this one with the bridge and its associated equipment, plus the wading trunks. The only things I really had to add was the waterproofing, which is a bit unfortunate because ALL Churchills that had the wading trunks on, would have had all of this fabric etc. too — yet the vast majority of these kits that will be built with them, will have only the trunks. But IRL, those were almost the first things to be dropped once the tank was ashore, and the fabric only removed after …

Well my weekend wasn't as productive as I'd hoped, at least for this project. None of the chassis are all the way done yet, but some are in better shape than others. Here's what I still need to address:
CJ8 - Finish winch detail, fix height issue in rear, touch up any damaged paint
YJ8 - Fix exhaust hanger, also need a few spot touchups
TJ8 - Still needs brake lines fab'd, revisit exhaust placement, paint touchups
JK8 - Investigate rear axle fitment, address front axle/exhaust interference, resolve rear bumper/exhaust fitment, connect existing brake lines, paint touchups
Gonna take some time to get everything sorted out... but this is to be expected when a build involves so much custom work

TJ and JK frames are done now too. Each truck now only needs the body and interior parts completed. Though I had wanted to do them all in series, I now think I'll have much better luck doing them one at a time.

There were also very few lines, much less than yours.

Thanks for your tip, but don't worry, the rivets have already been sanded over and will hardly be recognizable later. I know the rivets are there (see picture no. 11), so I added them. I like textured surfaces and weathering on the model better than factory-fresh machines, even if it's not always historically accurate.

A museum exhibit, heavily renovated, it doesn't count
And you have a specific prototype declared ,P-51B Mustang 336 FS, 4 FG Missouri Mauler (September 1944).
If it were some kind of collective image of the P-51. it would be more difficult for me to argue.

It's actually quite simple. You are both right. The rivets are there, otherwise the wing would not hold together. However, they are not visible on new airplanes because, with the exception of the access flaps, about 60% of the front of the wing has been filled and painted. On older airplanes, slight sink marks and cracks can occur around the rivets and at sheet metal joints due to the greater material thickness of the filler as a result of shrinkage of the filler during residual hardening (keyword ghostseams). These filler accumulations also tend to flake off during flight maneuvers with high G-forces as the material underneath works. For an older Mustang, the most realistic look would probably be a fillerized appearance with partially Panel lines and rivets. But I am of the opinion that everyone should build their model the way they like it. After all, it's a hobby.

Not everything is so simple, the P-51 did not fly with peeling wings. There is an instruction for technicians to immediately restore the wing cover if it is broken.

Welcome on board everybody. So I think we should stop "counting rivets" now. 😉 I learned something about the P51, so there is something good about it.
And I just noticed that Revell apparently put the wrong canopy into the box of my kit. I have the birdcage canopy but this Missouri Mauler version did not have that kind of canopy. Really strange. So this airplane will no longer be historically accurate anyway.

You have produced a good build so far Chris. Couple of adages, if it looks like a duck, quack's like a duck. . . . It's a duck! My hobby, my build if you're unhappy with that follow some other build. 👍🥸🤘🥸🤟

Thanks Mark. Even if it is not historically accurate you can still make a nice airplane out of it. At least I'll try.
The decals are very thin, which is easy to work with. However, the black and white transitions showed through on the emblem. I had to do some careful touching up with magnifying glasses and a brush.

So I am done now and took the first final pictures. Still not happy with the canopy but with that wrong part from Revell I was not able to make it much better.

Looks very good in NMF. You prompted me to start mine 🙂
I have better fitting canopy, but it should be Malcolm hood for the provided camo, the fact ignored by Revell completely 😄

Dry run to see were things can be placed. Oil drums etc need to be bedded into the terrain.

Hi Kesa. I like it's suggested compactness over the Panzer IV, it looks like a Tank as does the Tiger. They spring to mind when anyone talks/say's describe a Tank.

I suppose if you ask any normal person what a tank looks like they'd describe a panzer III or Tiger, yet again. Different models, time periods and ares where the tank are used alter the appearance. Like could be seen with T-34-85s, some were like they were intended while others had components missing and non functional scopes. And Ukrainian Abrams, instead of the usual M at the end of the serial number its UKR, and the armour is different, not using their classified armour. Back to the topic, when i look at my old drawings of tanks they do look like Tigers, boxy and big so i guess your right.

Evening Kesa. Different eras, different battlefields, terrain etc. Gives people their favourite MBT. But when someone says Tank the PzIII and the Tiger come to mind for me (Or the boiler in the Loft) then the Imperial March from Star Wars. 🤟🥸🤘🤣

Got the trash and old building materials hauled away. Vacuumed it out and cleaned everything. Hung up some old leftover peg board and drywall and it's starting to look like a useable space. Will hang some lights up next and get a spray booth installed. Then perhaps I can add airbrushing to my repertoire.

Thanks all. Bughunter, I sure hope I love it. I thought this building presented a good opportunity to have the space to learn some more skills. I can fit a good sized spray booth on the workbench directly in front of a window for the vent and there is a shelf under the bench I can use for the compressor. Exposed beams overhead should make hanging a few more lights easy enough. Then it'll be just practice and experimenting.

Having a deep work bench is nice especially if you also use an air extractor, because the extractor itself will take up a lot of the depth of the space. Nice to see proper ceiling lighting as well for the room.
I sort of dream of having a workspace with no less than 5 IKEA work tables. 🙂 For rotating projects.

That's a huge space, mate! Set aside, an area, for drying. My only concern is dust dropping on your new paint jobs, so get yourself a large clear tub and use that to put over your fresh paint, while it dries. One thing I've found, is my booth also sucks in other things, from outside. For example cat hairs, off my clothes, and fabric fibres. We've all fell victim to it, at some point, and it's bloody frustrating! Keep safe over there dude, in that storm. Hopefully things will warm up, next week?

Thanks Bozzer! I already go the clear tub route because of pets and our house is an 1870 farmhouse. There's 150 odd years of dust accumulation anywhere I go. As far as the storm goes we've lost power once, had the kitchen sink freeze despite being dripped and the washer. Got space heaters going in crawl spaces to try to combat that. Next week should be better. Hope everyone has a great holiday season!

Nice shed. I built a 10'x12' metal shed last summer. It will never be used for painting due to ZERO climate control. Like Bozzer, I would be concerned about dust getting in your paint. I recommend you get a hygrometer/thermometer to leave in the space. That way you know in advance if the temperature is in range and if the humidity is below 50%. It will save you the aggravation of your glossy paint jobs from "blushing" (assuming you are solvent based paint).

Indeed Bill, I already have one of those, possibly that exact one. From my old space. I put it in my spray booth so I know exactly where I'm at where I'm painting. My old painting space was not climate controlled either, and dust and pet hair has always been an issue. Just recently sprayed my first couple of things out in the new paint space. The paint is stored on climate control so it is warm. Space heater going on the shop meant I was about 62 degrees F and 48% humidity when I sprayed. Everything laid down really nice. Body gets painted and then sealed in a tote to combat the dust. I have had to do that anyway, so nothing new there. It then gets carried inside to dry in the warmth. Not ideal, but better than my old situation. That was a body clear coated and a body put into primer and both have turned out well.

Added some photos of my process. And my thermometer doohickey that tells me if I can paint or not. One photo of the largely completed setup showing the new air compressor and location and a couple of my painting process. Stuff moves from the climate monitored painting area directly into the tote after painting. I've been doing this for awhile because where I used to paint was very dusty and this new area is very dusty. But it works for me.

I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of Kyle's Kut and Chop Shop? I'm also still very envious of the space. I think my new place is going to be 10' x 10' with a U shaped bench. Underneath storage, display shelving down one side, paint booth and 3D printer at the end, and work area on the opposite side. My only issue is natural light, which will come from a window or windows, on the very opposite end of the spray booth. But I figured that 4 x 2' x 2' LED panel lights, would be more than adequate for lighting up the space. I may install a fan this time though, to help with the crazy summers that we've been having recently? Aircon isn't really an option yet, because that would require it's own dedicated supply, and that creates a whole new problem. But, where there's a will 😉

Indeed Bill, fully decking it out with insulation and climate control and all would be the ultimate goal. Bozzer that sounds like it would be a very nice work space. This remains just a hobby and one I already spend far too much on. 😂. The other issue is electrical, as this building runs off just one breaker from the main panel. Ideal I'd also get this it's own electrical supply and panel and then I'd really be cooking with gas. But financially, a project like finishing this building out and running a new box to it aren't feasible right now. Works well for what I need it for. Maybe I will update it more in future.

Kyle, simply by replacing the lights with Led fittings, you will be reducing the load on that circuit. Those old fittings have a ballast inside, that eats electric. If you can send me a picture of the fusebox and tell me what cable is supplying it, I can tell you what you can safely draw from it? No point having an electrician on your posts, if you can't ask for some information? 😉

Ah an electrician! So is my father-in-law. I had a talk with him while I was working on this project. Everything is ran off of one 15 amp circuit breaker on the main panel. So we do have some loss as the cable must needs travel from the main panel outside and to this building. All lights were changed out to LEDs to draw the least amount of power. Runs my fan and air compressor without issue at all.

15A is enough for now. If you get all your electrical apparatus running at once and ask him to check the draw with his ammeter, that will give you a better indicator of how close to the 15A, you are. Try to avoid things like electric heaters and coffee machines, etc and you should be ok. I ran a big cable from the house, to my first outbuilding, then came from there, to my cave. The new cave is gonna be right next to that building, so I'll come from there again. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Yes Lex, the company is nice and normally the only thing mine will destroy is maybe squashing a box top or something.
Roland, thank you. I really didn't like the look of any of those plastic ones you see. This spray booth is decidedly not cheap. However, I build enough that I wanted something permanent and not to have to worry about, so the cost was justified to me.

Bozzer you'd never want to see it now. I have spare parts and kits stacked up along the work bench. 2 toolboxes flanking my work area to the left of my spray booth. I like to be surrounded by my work if at all possible. And a couple display cabinets taking up room. I organize every once in awhile but it never lasts. 🤣

Exceedingly simple little kit of course. I'm using this one to attempt a captured winter livery. Just to try some things out. Assembly is basically done. And it has a pilot. So he's in there. Next I have to mask the canopy and start getting the original Luftwaffe scheme laid down.

Painting is nearly complete... some 1:1 car drama was keeping me from getting much done for a while. Unfortunately the body came out with a bit of orange peel. I suspect it's coming from the black basecoat. Likely not a big problem, the assembled build will just get a bit more weathering. Art direction of the project can still be adapted to accommodate at this point. Next build that uses this system, I may look at wet sanding/polishing the basecoat too.

Hey Felix, a very promising start. Unfortunately I can't give you any tips on the interior color, I only know that with American aircraft it sometimes depends on the factory, as the same type was painted differently in different factories.

All welcome, I now assembled the front and 4th axles. All are movable in a steering position, but as usual you have to decide and then fix everything. Also I found that one set of wheels is not parallel, so I cut the steering arm and added a millimeter of sprue roundel. Does this not appear if they test-fit these kits, or did I make a build error?

The radiator is now detailed with the Voyager silver mesh. You only see the front side now, it's on both sides. When it was assembled I realised that the air horns also need a PE part. There is some warping in the sump and the top cover, I hope it isn't evident looking through the front grille later on. The air tanks must be stripped like the fuel tanks, but you get equal lengths of PE strips to attach two kinds of tank. Therefore I clipped 4 of them and redrilled the hole on the end. The assembly with the 2 tanks and the container is suspended on a single PE part that I had first bent the wrong direction, I hope it doesn't get fatigued.

Continuing the interior with the seats. Also the fenders are completed, it's very important to align the bent beams that sometimes are replaced woth Voyager assemblies. It's preferable to use that, the replacements are sturdier than the originals.

The cabin exterior is done using some original kit PE and clearparts, but both have problems. The clearparts are not calibrated and have distortion because of this. I will be replacing the large parts with plexiglass. The kit PE is wobbly because it's not thick enough., I even had to hammer it quite a while. Then I found out Voyager does replace half of the protection kit, but not the large parts behind the doors. At least half of the creases are removed then. But Voyager messed up at the hood closing strip, providing two identical parts in stead of mirrored ones. This could be remedied with some re-riveting.

The pVoyager photo etch cabin roof is constructed with all its nightmarish embossing deformities corrected, the badly fitting airco module that was mosly bent the wrong way around so it broke at one instance. I replaced the 3 largest clearparts with a piece of Trumpeter 1/350 airplane set transparent box cover, that has the right thickness to be able to sand the corner roundings in it. The air purifier system is not installed completely, because that would impede the clearpart masking. So now it's down to interior painting.

Thanks Gorby, this was now put to wait for the Essex carriers, but as these are awaiting some last details it can go ahead now. The NATO green interior is painted after the appliance of the Eduard masking set. This replaces the kit masking set and has a cool black film, but still needs some trimming on the outside masks of the smaller windows.

The hood is dry-fit on the frame and it seemed that one fender had to be rearranged. I prepared the PE for the rear view mirrors that are quite complicated. I also built the Gecko Models pallet truck as a dio element. It's a very fine kit, there is only one pallet contrary to the image with the 4 pallets on the truck.

Welcome. I assembled the container in a few hours, an easy process if you wanted to show it closed down. But the option with open doors is incorrect and needs some changes to the locking system. I had done this with the right door, but it would make no sense to have the pallet loader blocked by the left door so I have to change that one too. I made a sketch of the design for the dio, though the cut might be more oblique to gain some volume.

All pieces together, now I can assess what needs to be done to get a correct representation of the canon. It's quite a lot!

Looks like an interesting project.
Incidentally, on the wheels the wood-grain is the wrong direction on the rim. It should be run all the way around the rim in short sections as shown in this video:

Made a careful start. Parts are a mixed bag, some very nicely done, some a bit crude and oversized.

I had a go at it, looks more crude in the pictures then it looks in real life, might do some fine tuning later

That's one of the things I hate about Revell. For a modern kit maker, their tolling is sometimes horrendous. But with some quality hands like yours the parts look incredible.

Thank you Mr D. The 1931 Ford Model A is significant because it marked the final year of production for the Model A, a hugely popular car that replaced the Model T and was one of the most widely sold vehicles in the late 1920s and early 1930s, offering improved features like a three-speed transmission, four-wheel brakes, and hydraulic shock absorbers compared to its predecessor, while also being considered a stylish and accessible option for the time; the 1931 model year featured slight design updates and was the last before Ford introduced the Model B with a new engine design in 1932.

Been tinkering away on this. Really nice and detailed old kit. Decided I'd make it the Wayne Speed Equipment shop hauler complete with all the Wayne engine goodies.

That looks really good. The matte color scheme makes it actually look quite modern. Was it a difficult build given the age of the kit?

Oh those are just mock-ups gentlemen. No interior at all yet. However, ins answer to your question Marcel, not difficult. It's a very nicely detailed kit and it builds well. I'm enjoying it.

Final mock-ups before I glue everything down. Instrument panel is done helped out by some handy decals that survived despite being 25 years old. A quick wood grain thrown on the steering wheel. Good enough as we won't see much once it's closed in. Nearing the end now!!

Thank you Mattes: A lot of seats are free yet.🙂
Tom : danke für die wertvollen Hinweise. In der Tat habe ich schon geahnt, dass das Dach nur theoretisch passt. Heute Abend willl ich mich an den Zusammenbau wagen.

🙂. You are welcome: as usual popcorn for all! 🙂
I found the most usable sequence for installation of the fuselage parts:
cockpit to the left half. Right half. Bottom. Upper roof inserted without gluing. Lower roof inserted without gluing. Front bubble glued to the bottom and to the lower roof. Both roofs glued to the fuselage. Air inlet glued in. Ready without mess and disaster. 🙂

Today I worked on the tail. The detailing and overall fit is excellent. However, I recommend changing the assembly sequence. In my opinion, it will hardly be possible to integrate the parts cleanly if you follow the instruction

Wow. This brings back memories of watching these at the American air force base RAF Wethersfield in England in the 1960s practicing their fire fighting role . They would hover over a fiery crash site and beat the flames back to allow the silver suited ground crew in to rescue the trapped airmen. Wonderful!! Great work.

I'm glad you like the interim status. Alec: That's the same yellow I used with you Corsiar/Prototype. A mix with light gray to reduce saturation. The sea blue (H181) is also lightened / reduced in saturation with sea gray.

Thx!🙂
I decided on a different assembly sequence. First I built the complete rotor head (parts D1, D17 and D3). I replaced the plastic axle with a brass tube (1.6 mm). The counterpart (tube with a diameter of 1.8 mm) is installed in the pylon. I recommend to disassemble the vibration dampers (parts d20) and gluing the triangles to the blades first. The middle part can be glued in between later after the installation of painted blades. This achieves a simple and clean assembly of the individual parts.

As usual, I attached the doors with two pieces of wire. 0.24 mm hole, 0.25 mm wire.

Today was the right time to connect the tail with the fuselage. 5 of 9 struts in place. The decision to replace the etched parts with brass pipes with wire as inlay was right. It's been easy to install and it's all much more stable.

I thought about Robert's comment again… Somehow it's all very tight! Do I have install the axes of the rotors correct? Unfortunately no! 🙁 I glued the axles at a wrong angle!🙁 It can't work like that.
The axes run parallel to the inner EDGES of the pylons and not through the center of the pylons. Thanks to my solution with a brass tubes, I was able to correct the mistake. With a suitable drill (1,6 mm) and a bit of pressure, I bent the tubes into the correct position / angle 🙂. In the last picture the correct position is shown.
