Eagle Transporter
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/8/9/7/1540897-118962-42-720.jpg)
Starting at the front with the cockpit parts. All cut off the sprue and cleaned up ready for some assembly and priming.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/5/8/8/1542588-118962-38-720.jpg)
Cockpit parts primed with Mig One-Shot White & Grey on the inside of the cockpit.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/5/8/9/1542589-118962-59-720.jpg)
Cockpit back wall painted. Not my neatest work but it won't be seen very well so good enough 😉
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/5/9/1/1542591-118962-35-720.jpg)
Made a start on cleanup of the back spine parts. If you don't already have a seam remover then get one before you attempt this kit - you'll need it 😄
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/5/9/2/1542592-118962-45-720.jpg)
Back spine assembled. Very fiddly to add the parts & glue without them dropping back out again but I got there.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/5/9/3/1542593-118962-69-720.jpg)
More fiddly assembly with the cages around the pods.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/4/9/1/1543491-118962-45-720.jpg)
Pilots (badly!) painted. Again, not too fussed as they'll hardly be seen once they're in the cockpit.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/4/9/2/1543492-118962-11-720.jpg)
More fiddly pipework assembling the front & rear pods. Needed to be careful on orientation but the instructions are reasonably clear.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/4/9/3/1543493-118962-59-720.jpg)
All the parts assembled so far. Getting close to closing up the cockpit, just have to prepare the windows and then I can look at sticking that together and cleaning up the seam.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/8/0/3/1547803-118962-56-720.jpg)
More assembly, this time the side pods. Labelled them so I remember which one goes on which corner 😉
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/8/0/4/1547804-118962-97-720.jpg)
And the feet to go with them.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/8/0/5/1547805-118962-80-720.jpg)
Fiddly, fiddly pipes again! That was horribly fiddly but the engine "block" is all done.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/8/0/6/1547806-118962-19-720.jpg)
Got the windows ready. Primed the inside of the bottom windows with one-shot black and masked the front of all the windows ready to glue into the cockpit halves.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/8/0/7/1547807-118962-89-720.jpg)
Windows glued in using Micro Kristal Klear.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/8/0/8/1547808-118962-38-720.jpg)
Decals added to the pilots and they can be glued in place on the back wall.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/8/0/9/1547809-118962-92-720.jpg)
Last part for the cockpit assembly is the four thrusters. Primed with one-shot black ready for a metallic coat.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/5/5/4/1548554-118962-33-720.jpg)
Cockpit halves glued together and the seam sanded back. It's not too bad needed a small few bits re-glued with extra thin but it's mostly gone.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/5/5/5/1548555-118962-92-720.jpg)
Another coat of primer across the sanded parts.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/5/5/6/1548556-118962-21-720.jpg)
Back wall with pilots glued into the back of the cockpit.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/5/5/7/1548557-118962-85-720.jpg)
Cockpit fully assembled 😎
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/5/5/8/1548558-118962-75-720.jpg)
All the parts constructed (sorry, forgot to take photos of the cargo pod going together) primed with one-shot white. You can see how big the thing is going to be!!
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/7/4/6/1556746-118962-89-720.jpg)
Parts primed with one-shot black
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/7/4/7/1556747-118962-92-720.jpg)
Engines primed with gloss black
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/7/4/8/1556748-118962-96-720.jpg)
"Struts" painted with metallic Chrome.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/7/4/9/1556749-118962-64-720.jpg)
New technique alert 😉
Trying out C1 metalliser on the struts.
Trying out C1 metalliser on the struts.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/7/5/0/1556750-118962-28-720.jpg)
Yep, that works 🙂
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/7/5/7/1556757-118962-73-720.jpg)
Engine bells painted with metal color aluminum
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/7/5/1/1556751-118962-97-720.jpg)
Metalliser is great on the engine bells too 😎
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/2/9/2/1557292-118962-13-720.jpg)
Metalliser used on all the metallic parts. They all look suitably shiny 😎
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/4/9/6/1562496-118962-55-720.jpg)
Feet painted with Panzer Dark Grey & Drybrushed with Metallic Steel.
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/4/9/7/1562497-118962-37-720.jpg)
Cockpit & Engine Tanks painted White-Grey and glossed with Pledge.
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/5/5/7/1563557-118962-38-720.jpg)
Decals applied to the cockpit and the Engine tank section. I shelled out on the weathering decal set and they are really delicate, fiddly and difficult to apply as they will only come off the backing using hot water and then all they want to do is curl up or wrinkle. Really fiddly but I persevered and only failed with two. Sealed in with another gloss coat.
Here's the top view.
Here's the top view.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/5/5/8/1563558-118962-86-720.jpg)
Side view of the decaling.
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/5/5/9/1563559-118962-16-720.jpg)
And the bottom view. The middle bottle was one of the decals that folded over so much it was unsalvageable so trashed it and used the kit supplied decal. My "head canon" is that the bottle had been swapped off another Eagle and that's why it's marked different. I'll put that one at the bottom so you won't see it anyway.
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/3/6/7/1566367-118962-72-720.jpg)
Light pinwash with Blue-Grey, cleaned up with Lacquer Thinners then two coats of Matt varnish to dull everything down. That's the cockpit pretty much done. Just need to add the four metallic 'sensors'
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/3/6/8/1566368-118962-50-720.jpg)
Cockpit view from the side.
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/3/6/9/1566369-118962-80-720.jpg)
Cockpit view from below.
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/3/8/6/1566386-118962-26-720.jpg)
Sensors added and window masking removed. Cockpit is done 🙂
![Album image #39 Album image #39](/albums/img/6/9/1/1569691-118962-82-720.jpg)
Engine bottles get a Blue-Grey wash and a couple of coats of Matt Varnish. These are done now as well.
![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/6/9/2/1569692-118962-75-720.jpg)
Matt coated the feet and gloss coated the struts which made them really dark - the metalliser doesn't like anything on top of it but I wanted to protect the struts from scrapes so will have to live with it. They're still metallic, just darker than before.
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/6/9/3/1569693-118962-27-720.jpg)
Rescue pod gets a coat of white-grey and a light gloss coat to protect it.
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/6/9/4/1569694-118962-88-720.jpg)
Port side masking, ready for stripes.
![Album image #43 Album image #43](/albums/img/6/9/5/1569695-118962-46-720.jpg)
Port side painted with Red to give the stripes.
![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/3/3/7/1570337-118962-39-720.jpg)
The starboard side gets it's stripes and the black "vents" are fitted to the top parts. All sealed in with a coat of gloss ready for decals.
![Album image #45 Album image #45](/albums/img/5/4/0/1572540-118962-64-720.jpg)
Decals applied on the pod and sealed in with another coat of gloss.
![Album image #46 Album image #46](/albums/img/5/4/1/1572541-118962-60-720.jpg)
Blue-Grey wash and a couple of Matt coats.
![Album image #47 Album image #47](/albums/img/5/4/2/1572542-118962-98-720.jpg)
The windows for the Rescue Pod have had their "back" painted black with One Shot primer leaving the part you'll see still shiny but blacked out.
![Album image #48 Album image #48](/albums/img/5/4/3/1572543-118962-20-720.jpg)
Used PVA to glue the windows in. Need to leave that 24hrs to dry fully.
![Album image #49 Album image #49](/albums/img/1/7/0/1573170-118962-19-720.jpg)
Smoke oil paint weathering on all the Engine Bells. Did that early as that needs a while to dry fully ahead of adding the smaller bells to the bottom of the Rescue Pod
![Album image #50 Album image #50](/albums/img/2/8/8/1573288-118962-26-720.jpg)
The main body of the Rescue pod gets the same Blue-Grey wash & a couple of coats of Matt gloss.
![Album image #51 Album image #51](/albums/img/2/8/9/1573289-118962-54-720.jpg)
Streaky engine bells and the drybrushed feet are glued into place.
![Album image #52 Album image #52](/albums/img/2/9/0/1573290-118962-41-720.jpg)
The roof sections are glued into place.
![Album image #53 Album image #53](/albums/img/2/9/1/1573291-118962-22-720.jpg)
Loosely fitted the top but that looks too clean so needs a bit of wash as well.
![Album image #54 Album image #54](/albums/img/4/1/6/1575416-118962-70-720.jpg)
Front and back "passageways" and the "spine" painted white-grey, glossed, washed with blue-grey and matt coated.
![Album image #55 Album image #55](/albums/img/4/1/7/1575417-118962-19-720.jpg)
Engine bells fitted to the passageways.
![Album image #56 Album image #56](/albums/img/4/1/8/1575418-118962-11-720.jpg)
Rear engine bells fitted to the tank assembly and the baffles fitted.
![Album image #57 Album image #57](/albums/img/5/4/5/1575545-118962-11-720.jpg)
Rear passageway glued to the spine.
![Album image #58 Album image #58](/albums/img/5/4/6/1575546-118962-21-720.jpg)
Engine assembly glued next.
![Album image #59 Album image #59](/albums/img/5/4/7/1575547-118962-67-720.jpg)
Added the rescue pod and screwed that to the spine
![Album image #60 Album image #60](/albums/img/5/4/8/1575548-118962-28-720.jpg)
Then the front passageway was glued to the spine
![Album image #61 Album image #61](/albums/img/5/4/9/1575549-118962-47-720.jpg)
And finally added the cockpit assembly, now it looks like an Eagle 😎
![Album image #62 Album image #62](/albums/img/2/3/1/1579231-118962-52-720.jpg)
Side pods have been painted white-grey, glossed and the kit decals have been applied. Weathering decals next.
![Album image #63 Album image #63](/albums/img/5/2/5/1583525-118962-78-720.jpg)
Half the weathering decals applied, just the other two side pods to go.
![Album image #64 Album image #64](/albums/img/5/4/4/1588544-118962-54-720.jpg)
Weathering decals completed and the side pods were literally "hung out to dry" 😄 after a gloss coat.
![Album image #65 Album image #65](/albums/img/8/0/4/1589804-118962-86-720.jpg)
Cages for the sides have been glossed, washed with blue-grey, cleaned up then matt coated.
![Album image #66 Album image #66](/albums/img/8/0/5/1589805-118962-75-720.jpg)
I cut the lugs off the side cages as they won't fit as I'd already assembled the front and back sections but....
![Album image #67 Album image #67](/albums/img/8/0/6/1589806-118962-25-720.jpg)
Without the lugs they just clip in without glue easily enough.
![Album image #68 Album image #68](/albums/img/8/0/7/1589807-118962-21-720.jpg)
Side pods washed with the blue-grey, cleaned up and matt coated.
![Album image #69 Album image #69](/albums/img/8/0/8/1589808-118962-30-720.jpg)
Glued the foot to the side pod making sure the "hinge" on the gear faced towards the back on all four.
![Album image #70 Album image #70](/albums/img/8/0/9/1589809-118962-16-720.jpg)
Glued the thruster bells to the side pod.
![Album image #71 Album image #71](/albums/img/8/1/0/1589810-118962-99-720.jpg)
Repeated four times and they're all compete.
![Album image #72 Album image #72](/albums/img/8/1/1/1589811-118962-13-720.jpg)
Turned the Eagle upside down to glue the side pods on.
![Album image #73 Album image #73](/albums/img/8/1/2/1589812-118962-48-720.jpg)
Eagle complete 😄

very nice! The nice thing with the Eagle is even if you screw it up, you can just throw the kit against the wall and put it in a crashed diorama! 😱

The engine bells came out very nice. I understand that assembling the rear engine with its tubing can be tricky?

Thanks all for the comments. It's coming along nicely even though I'm being distracted on the weekends with the Rugby World Cup. Unfortunately my Team (Wales) have now been knocked out so more time for modelling 😄. @Villiers de Vos, Yes the engine tank assembly is very fiddly, there's 8 rods, 4 of them perpendicular to the base and another 4 at an angle and you need to sandwich them between the "top" and "bottom" parts lining them all up at the same time. Taking your time and using Tamiya Extra Thin allows a bit of "wiggle time" to be able to do that bit. All the pipework parts were fiddly but the engine is probably the trickiest. Thankfully past that stage now and into adding paint and dirt then assembling 😎

The newsfeed says 84 photos but when I go into the album there's only 64 and I can't see the completed photos. The cover image looks great though!

Thanks for the kind comments. This was a long build but I suppose that's to be expected for such a big kit, just need to find somewhere to put it now 😄
@Ben, sounds like you're missing all the photos uploaded yesterday (5th Nov), maybe your browser has cached the gallery so trying a F5/Command+F/Refresh might bring the rest of the photos?

Hi Gareth, I can see them now. I was having lots of trouble with scalemates. Dumping the cache and reloading didn't help. Your eagle looks fantastic!

Love it. I still have the toy from when I was a kid. I may have to add this kit to my stash soon.

Album info
Next on the bench is the MPC Eagle Transporter from Space 1999. Planning to follow how ModelMakingGuru made his one using the playlist at Youtube Video .
I don't have the special edition version that he built in then videos so not so many decals and I'm planning to do the Rescue Version with the Red Stripes on the pod in the middle.
