1974 McLaren M23
Time to strip the horrid kit chrome finish
My workbench when I started this kit… in 2014! ?
Mig Ammo Metallic Red and Blue look the business over a silver base colour.
Should have started using Tamiya rattle cans years ago!
The red needs a good ol’ polishing!
still not sure about the Tamiya seat belts. They need some top fasteners...
I replaced all the horrible (and dated) Tamiya tubing with a mix of Tamiya 0.8mm black "cable", MFH clear brown tubing and Prime Miniatures "conduit" material for the cable to the mechanical fuel pump I added at the back of there left cylinder bank (other picture)
More Prime Miniatures braided hose, made from fibreglass apparently. cool. Just needs a light black wash to tone it down a bit. The smaller braided line is Tuner Model Manufactory "spring unit" I picked up years ago. Any suggestions of an alternative is greatly welcomed because the stuff is brilliant
next job is to combine the two... bricking it!
The MFH seat belts are a proper upgrade from the kit belts. Well worth the effort to track them down.

Ooh! I started one of these WAAY back when but could never get beyond using garden hose for the engine wiring. I'll check it out.

I made half a dozen of these Tamiya kits over 40 years ago (that's a scary thought) but this particular kit was always eluded me. It was however the first kit I bought when I took the hobby back up in 2013 after a 15 year hiatus. Slow progress but so far so good 🤞

Looks great, Scott!
Your tools in photo 5...I've built a few kits where I feel that hammer might have come in handy, as well! 😉😂

That's so funny. That picture was taken over 10 years ago! My workbench has changed beyond recognition since then.
Spookily I retrieved this very kit from the bin recently after chucking it in anger due to the shitty Vallejo metal colours... thank goodness I didn't think of the hammer option!
