Boeing 707 Project
Boeing 707 "Jet Clipper Borinquen"
121022 - B707 box contents.
121022 B707 - Lotta filling required
121022 - B707 Test fit
121022 - The aircraft will be depicted in flight, so the wings will need to show upward flex. Note OOB warp, easily corrected while welding top and bottom wing halves.
121027 - B707 nose gear doors after filling and sanding
121027 - B707 main gear wells, filled with 5-min epoxy and plastic shims before being sealed and puttied.
121029 - B707 nose weight is 0.5oz tire balance weight secured with epoxy.
121029 - B707 Clear nose piece secured with CA glue.
121031 - B707 The start of a campaign of filling & sanding.
121031 - B707 The discontinuity behind the cockpit will have to go.
121031 - B707 Initial application of filler (glazing putty thinned with acetone).
121031 B707 - Just about there (I'm done messing with this)!
121031 - Main gear door installation was a saga: File and shape the door, styrene to hold door at the right level, close side gap, fill well with 5-minute epoxy, and cap with door part, wiping excess epoxy with acetone.
121103 B707 - That 1/2 oz. of lead in the nose was far too much for a stick-mounted model, so I had to (a) drill a hole big enough to (b) insert a load of BBs followed by (c) a load of epoxy to hold them in place. She's a pretty heavy bird now!
121108 B707 - Port main gear door, with initial shaping done and filler applied.
121110 B707 - First primer shots (Wal-Mart Grey Primer). She's beginning to look like something!
121117 B707 - First white shot (flat). Scribed main gear doors.
121117 B707 - First white shot (flat). Tail fin needs re-scribing. Note HF antenna on fin cap from sewing needle.
121118 B707 - Seeking a balance.
121118 B707 - First gloss white shot. Gloss White is Wal-Mart cheap rattlecan.
121118 B707 - First gloss white shot. That's kitchen foil on the horizontal stab.
121118 B707 - Seamless intakes! insert is .005 clear styrene strip, painted white on the outside, cut to fit the diameters of the fan blades and intake, and CA-ed inplace.
121207 (PHD) B707 - Tail fin cut from .040 styrene, filed to a sharp edge, and mounted with two sewing pins in drilled holes.
121207 (PHD) B707 - Plastic enema from acrylic rod. Messed up the initial hole, so I had to fill it with epoxy, file, sand, polish, re-paint, and re-drill.
121207 (PHD) B707 - On her Popsicle stick. Base and fuselage are drilled at 5 deg angle, so she can be in level flight or in a graceful climb.
130105 B707 - First attempt with Alclad II.
130105 B707 - Unmasking.
130122 B707 - Fuselage and engine assemblies after several shades of Alclad.
130121 B707 - After several shades of Alclad (Chrome, Airframe Aluminum, Polished Aluminum, Duraluminum, Stainless Steel).
130122 B707 - Engine assemblies after several shades of Alclad.
131220 B707 - Engines mounted, puttied, and touched up.
131220 B707 - Engines mounted, puttied, and touched up.
140121 B707 - After decal application. Decals are Two-Six sheet STS44137 supplemented by home-made reg number and clipper name.
140121 B707 - Even with interlocking wings, fit was floppy. Remedied by a strip of .020 styrene. Wings are now snug and removeable.
140120 B707 - N450PA "Jet Clipper Borinquen" (Fini!)
140120 - Boeing 707-321C, N450PA "Jet Clipper Borinquen"
N450PA "Jet Clipper Borinquen" Trivia: "San Juan" is the name given to the island by the Spaniards. We know it as Puerto Rico.

PanAm 707. Iconic and hard to beat. All your work on the metal part paid off. You caught the spirit of that plane.
