After a long absence from modelmaking I start continuing my latest projects and get back to another one I plan to build for a long time – HMS Astute Class Submarine. I want to present the boat lowering into the water at the building yard, a scenery close to the one shown on the photo.

The boat was build out of box and already primed with grey surface primer. I sand the hull down until I get the level I want to present – in the first phase of the flooding process.
The dock was build from flat styrene, as much as close to the photos I found. The base is a Styrofoam board later integrated into a wooden frame.
Next is filling and sanding the dock section, working out the texture of the water and then painting all parts.
Much fun so far with all the research and scratch building and good to be back on the bench🙂
Cheers, Christian

Hello Christian! Was your Kilo on show at SMC in Veldhoven last weekend? If so we spoke about it and you let me photograph it without dust cover. Nice meeting you! Bis zum nächsten Mal!

Yep that was me and the Kilo. I can remember chatting with you. Unfortunately I forgot to stick my label on my shirt.
Was nice to meet you too, maybe next time in March 2017 in Lingen?!

I looked up Lingen on Google Maps: it isn't that far from the Aachen region so maybe I just hop by. It was nice meeting you and hopefully we'll meet again in Lingen!

Welcome Holger, glad you take a seat🙂
It is a two day show in Lingen. It is the Euro Model Expo formerly held in Heiden, but the new venue is much more promissing, so I'm looking forward to March 2017.
Cheers, Christian

I´ll attend Lingen next year. Its a nice possibility to meet my son there and to show him all the wonderful models.

Album info
This small diorama will present HMS Artful lowering into the floating dock at BAE Naval Systems in Barrow-in-Furness. Next to my Kilo Class I always want to show another Sub while flooding the dock, to present the size and underwater hull of the boat.
The Docking System at BEA Naval Systems is quite interesting and I try to keep it as close as possible building the bits and pieces from flat styrene. The boat comes out of box from Hobby Boss.
