Upper hull test fitting.
Low-poly gun barrel!
Grills.... Time to buy photo-etched ones.
Well, I planned this project as training, so kit was cheap and aftermarket should be also be cheap. Also the problem was that there were no grills-only set at that time. So, here is the fitting. The biggest grill isn`t fitting in place.
Lower hull. Well, it`s awful. There were no bulkhead, so it`s difficult to glue sides in parallel. Also fenders are not fitting with upper hull and you can see all these holes. (There were 6 main parts of lower hull)
But upper hull is OK.
More hatches... No sense to make them open, because only driver`s hatch have details inside.
._.
Tracks. I hope there will be no problems with them.
And after fittting all grills are in place. I planed to use PE motor plate, but I changed my mind in the process. Also, the hope that the motor plates of the su-100 and t-34-85 coincide completely, went to ashes. The side grids did not fit in heigh....
...and the upper grills in length. And for the motor plate I thinned the plastic and the grille fit in after trimming. On this photo I train to imitate the texture of casting. Here is also a mistake in instructions: the "clickers" for tows.
The idea of moving gun on this kit didn`t work. It`s better to glue it in static or you can use my way.
If I`m going to restore movement to gun, why don`t add it to upper armor also?
Paper clip and magnet will do the trick!
Self-tapping screws. Yep. That`s 5 screws as counterweight. Now gun can hold its position.
And after sanding and gluing hull I got this. Not bad.
Fine.
Could be worse.
._. What the...I don't know what the engineers who made this kit thought. Maybe "Seems fine, no more efforts"
Time to stop and sand all the wheels.
Dry fit.
Didn`t know how wires were connected to smoke launchers. Let it be like this.
Final shots before priming.
Priming.
Base color, first highlights.
And after few more highlights by airbrush.
I don`t know how to wearther models properly yet, but there will be big wheels, so no need to worry about the result.
After highlighting t-34 I decided to add more on su-100.
And finally, decals. Winter version, so all painting goes to nothing except the experience.
Some chipping.
Looks fine, time to scratch!

Oh no.... Seems like I need to add 2-3 more white layers and do less chipping.
Second layer of white color. Much better now! But I need one extra layer, "03" can definitely say it.
Final white layer. Time to stop.
Finally, wash

I did some tests with acrylic paste and sodium bicarbonate, the result is quite good, but needs some darkening.
