Razorback Progress
Cockpit is finished! With a bit of Eduard photo etch.
The sight has been sanded and polished to get rid of the seam line in the middle of the glass piece. Instrument panel is Eduard photo etch.
I added some cabling (Al and Cu) in the back for the instrument clustter.
Engine and Propeller finished with a bit of Eduard photo etch. I'm using Tamiya colors for everything except for the metal, which is my favorite SM01 Supermetallic from Mr.Color.
I added a bit more detail painting to the engine.
Everything ready for marrying the fuselage halfs together.
A bit more Eduard detail to the protective glass.
Result after paint.
Scribing some extra detail and doing some riveting.
All the small parts ready and painted. I temporarily PVA glued the flaps in place for the painting stage. They wil be extended on the finished model.
The engineering and fit is fantastic in this kit. This is the only place where I added some putty, and it was only precautionary.
A mockup of the model at its current state. I plan on having the engine cowl on a friction fit along with the propeller, so it can be removed to look at the engine.
Propeller and engine cowl removed.
Also the engine is a friction fit.
Black basing. I pre-shade by spraying white over a black base color.
Underside painted.
Topside painted.
Next is masking and painting the engine cowl and the rudder red.
Started the masking and painting of the engine cowl.
I'm using a yellow base for the red parts.
Some small corrections need to be made on the white lining where the red paint has leaked through the masking.
After fixing the white lining with brush painting and a layer of clear before decals.
Unfortunately, the white line can be seen through the base white decal for the indian head . I will have to fix that. More masking and painting needed..;)
I masked and painted another white layer and re-sprayed with clear and finally the decal is on. 🙂 Next will be masking the tail-plane and spray the rudder red.
Same process for painting the rudder. White, then yellow and finishing with the red.
All the decals are on. There were quite alot of stencils in this kit which is always very tedious to apply, but also very satisfying when the job is done. 🙂
The current state. Next is weathering.
As always, the mirror is a piece of aluminium foil. Here you can see the carrier film of the decals. I really should have cut away some of it befor application. Or better still, masked and painted the markings.
I painted all the loadout, but I'm going for the ground attack version. It is all press fitted so it can be removed/changed.
It is finished!
A little extra Eduard PE in the wheel wells.
Both windshield and the canopy are press fitted in, so they can be removed. The benefit of this is to be able to show the plane with an open canopy. Great work by Tamiya on the fit to enable this!
A bit of EZ-line used for the antenna wire.
The ICM figures are assembled. Really nice detail in this kit! 🙂
A bit of base paint before the figure painting starts.
First step is always the skin color and washes.
Simsalabim 😉. All the base, and detail painting done. Next the washes and dry brushing.
And they are finished!
A little mock up with the P-47.
Two brothers?! Twins even?
Pilot fit perfectly into the cockpit of the P-47.
Razorback in its place on the book shelf. 🙂

Guess it's time for another Razorback build.😉
I'm going for the paint scheme on the box and adding a figure set from ICM also.

That's a truckload of detail in 48-scale. Admirable clean quality & finish, the leather-effect on the belts is gorgeous... The cables behind the instruments make me curious what the plan on this project really is 🙂 Dream start, following with pleasure 👍

Well Slavo, the P-47 doesn't have a coaming over the instrument panel. From that triangular windscreen you can look into the area behind the instrument panel and that's where you would see those cables running out of all the instruments. 🙂

Looking good! Those figures are great, I've used them before. Maybe a simple Dio on the horizon?

Thank you Roland, Slavo and Tim! 🙂
@Slavo, the wiring is only for show as Patrick explains, no further extravagances planned at the moment😉.
@Tim, thanks for the encouragement, but dio's are are not planned for the near future. I have too many planes that I want to build before delving into that. 🙂 The ICM figures look great, though.

I'm taking it slow with this build, it is such a joy to work with this excellent kit. 🙂 Engine and propeller are finished and I'm currently working on the Eduard details for the wheel wells.

There is indeed a lot of detail on & around to engine so the option to make it properly visible is the right approach. Good progress on all fronts, looking forward to the paint job!

Thank you James, Patrick, Slavo and Sören! 🙂
I started the painting process during the weekend by doing some black basing for the pre-shade of the main body color.

A new update. I've just finished the base painting of the camo. Next will be masking and painting the red parts. Have to get the paint matched to the decals.. 😛

Oh, that white line under the decal is a bit of a pain for sure - but really should be fixable... How will you get the yellow lashes behind the white though, is there another decal?
Good luck with the next steps, all looking great so far!

In hind sight I really should have masked and painted the markings. The carrier film of the decals is clearly visible in many places..

Man, those figures build up nicely. Hard to tell they're 'just' plastic instead of resin aftermarket.
