Added another project to the bench. I need to get this finished before Christmas, so I better start this one early enough.
Luckily not so many parts but I want to display her flying and launching a missile, so some modifications are necessary. Landing gear doors need some work to display them closed.

Obviously I have no pilot yet 😄 Maybe it is remote controlled 😉

Nice project!
Normally i'm not so interested in planes but fulcrum's and flanker's are one of my fovorites!

Welcome Simon.
Yeah, Fulcrums and Flankers are sexy as hell. 😄

A bit of progress. As I had written I want to display this jet flying, which I don't think was my initial idea. The kit itself does not offer a flying presentation by default, so I need to cut some parts. Also some putty and sanding is necessary as the fit is not really great the way I did it.
It is really visible with the landing gear doors, but I'll try my best.

Maybe I should have considered another MiG-29 for this project but now it's too late.
But surface detail is really nice and I hope I can preserve it.

No nose weight necessary.
I think I can soon begin painting the cockpit as most parts are assembled as far as I could.
After cockpit decals I will be able to close the fuselage and glue everything together.
Depending on how I manage I think this one will be done much faster than I anticipated, which will give me more time for the base.

This Fulcrum was not designed for wheels up...

Watching.

Welcome aboard, Maciej.
You are right, this kit was not designed for that. Still, I hope to get a good result.

Welcome S M, Saeed and Sergej! 🙂
Cockpit is done and the canopy has been glued temporarily with some white glue.

I also applied NATO Black as my usual primer coat on the aircraft and the missiles.
The landing gear doors still need some work but it doesn't look so bad after some putty and sanding. Not perfect, though.
Missiles will obscure the view a bit as well.

@S M: I have another MiG-29 in my stash that I will build soon. (I hope...) 😉

Currently thinking about the base...
Maybe a wooden base with some foam on top, painted in the colours of the Russian flag.
I think the aircraft can be put on a brass rod, I hope that is sturdy enough.

First colour and applied and nozzles painted, with (I hope) somewhat acceptable heat discolouration.
Missiles received some colours as well.

Missed this, but I am now watching! If I may ask, why are you leaving the fins and stabilizers off before painting? I have seen some people do that but never understood the reason.

Very nice progress mate! Looking forward to your next steps👍!

Welcome Thomas and Konrad. 🙂
@Thomas: Long story short: For me it is to avoid overspray when applying camouflage patterns.
It is also to avoid damaging parts and sometimes the model is easier to handle inside the spraying booth, especially when it is a bit larger like 1/48 scale jets.
For a jet with two vertical stabilizers like the MiG-29 it is not always easy to paint them because the other stabilizer can get in the way.
So, most of the time I attach them shortly before removing the canopy mask, when finishing the build.

Second colour applied. The green is not as dark as the one on the painting guide but it is closer to the colour seen on the box art.
No colour buildup this time on the edges of the mask. 🙂

Thank you Saeed.
I am not done yet, but the finish line is now visible on the horizon.

Decals are done. After another clear coat and panel liner it is time for oils.

Wash applied. I like the result very much.
But! while wiping of the wash after some drying I managed to break off the pitot tube 😭 Stuff like that almost always happens.
Even though I have no carpet it still disappeared into another dimension.

On the bright side, I also started work on the display. Instead of trying some more "abstract" I thought about letting the MiG fly low over water.
To let her fly I use some transparent acrylic rod and the waves will be made with DAS air dry clay.
The first layer of clay is already applied and I will form the waves with the second. Now, in hindsight it was not a good idea to place the rod before painting the water.
I need to mask it some way later.

Thank you Konrad, Thomas and Robert. 🙂
I think the waves are good now but I am not sure yet how to colour them. Maybe I use some of my acrylic water texture or paint it blue colours and a lot of clear coat, or a mix of both.
The frame probably needs to get attached too, before I continue with paint.

MiG is done. 🙂

The water was painted with different acrylic blue colours and then sealed with gloss clear. After that some sanding was necessary as the surface still was rather rough.
After sanding more blue shades followed and finally I covered the waves in several coats of AK clear water gel. I was not sure if some white was necessary for foam on bigger waves, so I thought this time maybe a bit less is more and I kept it as it was.
It still bugs me that the pitot tube is missing but nothing I can do now.

The plate was created in Fusion360 and printed with my Photon Mono. Just some very basic stuff, I do not know much about working with such software, though getting the ropes might prove befenicial in the future. Looking at it now the plate may be a bit too large...

Well, all in all I am happy with the result.

Pretty successful MiG and the water looks like water👍 They do feel a bit unttached without a shock wave on the water.

Thank you, mates. Your kind words are much appreciated. 🙂
It was a fun project. The base was fun as well, though I need to refine the frames for future projects. Wood is a good material.

The hardest judge is still to come on christmas eve. 🙂
I hope the little guy likes his present. It is his favourite aircraft, after all.
