Good work with the 3d printer!
I'm sure, this will be a fantastic dio
Can't wait to see it crawling over the spice fields😄

Looking good already, wish I'd knew about this sooner, maybe like... on the discord? 😉 Just kidding, pretty nice, will follow this as well.

Welcome mates. 😄
Thank you for your kind words.
Alec, it's about the size of a 1:24 civilian car but a lot heavier. I will give you some exact measurements once I am back at the bench.
Simon, I am still experimenting with the dio. It is easy to place it on some sand but I want to make it a bit more interesting. Note sure if I succeed...

You did not miss it, Alec. Sadly, there was no scale info provided with the .stl files.
But I can try some very rough estimations about the scale later. People are tiny, even compared to the tracks.
Wiki says about 120 meter in length, that measures are probably from the books.
So I do not know how much that fits for the 2021 movie version.
It is huge, that much is sure. 😄

Thanks, Simon. Its spine is a bit bent due to bad fitting on my part (and probably warping of the parts). 😄
I'll try to hide that on the dio.
I use a new Slicer now and I think that it has some positive effects on printing quality for future projects. At least I think It does.
Base does not need that much work but I need to redo it. I was not able to leave some tracks in the sand as the texture simply stuck to the tracks...
Should I not get some nice tracks in the sand I can just say that the Carryall has dropped if off just a moment ago. 😄

Apparently the degree of warping/misfitting has to do with the angle you print things, etc. But I don't think resin prints are terribly dimensionally accurate. I always have to do a lot of sanding and fitting.

Done! Sort of, for now.
Intentionally I wanted to "spice" this up a bit but my ambitions were crushed and I failed.
So I might add the other vehicle once I figured out how to do it best.
Most of the work was sanding and the fit is not perfect, which is why the body is a bit bent up and not all tracks really touch the sand.
The Harvester received a bit of Dark Grey, varnish and then lots of sand pigments.
To create the sand I used AK Desert sand acrylic texture and the red Spice bed was done with rust pigments that I added while the texture was still wet. Then I blended it a bit and added some more sand texture.
As this thing is as big as a ship and it is basically moving trough the desert sea, I decided not to add anything more to the ground. There is just desert everywhere and the Harvester's move where it is rather flat, between the sand waves of Arrakis.
@Ben: I think you are right and it's maybe possible to avert that a bit with enough supports. It helped with the Ornithopter wings at least. But that's even more to clean up...
Good to know I am not the only one 😎

Very nice! Love the weathering. Looks pretty badass. You should add some figures to the base. xD

Very neat finish, sand dios are tricky (me thinks).
PS. The figures would be really cool too 👍

Thanks.
Your kind words are much appreciated, mates. 🙂
About figures, I'll search for some fitting ones and may add them later, should I find some I like.
The Harvester is about 1:860ish in scale, so I could go for 1:700 maybe?
Thanks.

The outdoor pics show more details, I like them 👍
Only the green background looks confusing 😉

It's amazing what you can get away with, with small scale figures. Just straight as broom stick human figures brings a model to life, provided they should be there in the implied situation. E.g. a battleship cruising in calm waters.

Thank you very much, mates. 🙂
@Johnny: I already have a Thopter and will upload some new pictures soon.
Ornithopter - Dune | Album by WhiteGlint (1:128)
Sadly, the wings began to droop down heavily due to they own weight.
I might need to support them before they break? 😭
