BTR-80A Hungarian ISAF
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/6/5/6/1241656-33587-94-720.jpg)
Initial assembly of the hull has been completed. Some filling and sanding was required but nothing grounbreaking. I added various handles using copper wire
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/9/4/2/1241942-33587-31-720.jpg)
Some further assembly has been done. I finished many of the hull details and started with the rather complex turret. I think making those copper-wire-handles might pay out in the form of some nice looking details later...
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/1/6/2/1243162-33587-88-720.jpg)
Some further progress: I built an extra stowage bin I had seen on some reference pictures. Now, I am only missing the suspension parts and some final turret details
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/0/8/6/1245086-33587-92-720.jpg)
Assembly is done. Now onto painting
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/0/8/7/1245087-33587-46-720.jpg)
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/0/8/8/1245088-33587-10-720.jpg)
Building this was - apart from some suspension-fiddling - a rather pleasant experience
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/2/1/0/1246210-33587-49-720.jpg)
Some basepaint has been applied with different green shades
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/2/1/1/1246211-33587-55-720.jpg)
On the top I tried to bring in some distressed paint by irregulary spraying the highlight-colour on bigger panels
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/5/9/6/1246596-33587-26-720.jpg)
Decals are on and some details have been basecoated.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/5/9/5/1246595-33587-99-720.jpg)
I also added some smaller highlights using a brush. Now, It will get a nice coat of varnish to proceed to some airbrush pre-dusting
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/2/5/9/1248259-33587-64-720.jpg)
Sprayed some light earth Tamiya paints over chipping varnish as a sort of pre-dusting
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/2/6/1/1248261-33587-42-720.jpg)
The lower hull was also heavily pre-weathered using the same method. This darker dust layers will serve as a foundation to be enhanced with some lighter dust weathering simulating more recent dust and debris
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/2/6/0/1248260-33587-93-720.jpg)
Then, I wore it down using a soft brush moistenend in tap water to replicate some packed patches of older dirt worn into the surface
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/6/7/8/1248678-33587-83-720.jpg)
Some oil paints have been applied to change colour on some elements and to enhance the pre-dusting
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/6/7/9/1248679-33587-10-720.jpg)
Now, the next steps will be a pin-wash and some chipping. As I have a good foundation for the weathering effect I am after, I can then use some final enamel effects and/or pigments to tie everything together
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/7/6/3/1249763-33587-83-720.jpg)
I added a brown wash to darken some shadows and panel-lines. I had to red-apply some oils after that to bring back some lighter colours...
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/7/6/4/1249764-33587-94-720.jpg)
Also, I added a light dust enamel-paint to reproduce more intense and recent dust-accumulations.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/7/6/5/1249765-33587-18-720.jpg)
Chipping has also been done using dark brown acrylic paint. I tried to be smewhat restrained here, which apparently was a good decision 🙂
Now, it´s onto some final effects like painting periscopes, adding some rust and exhaust-stains etc.

![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/2/4/0/1251240-33587-20-720.jpg)
Had an issue with some wheel-alignment, which means I have to pose the vehicle on some terrain... Here you see some tinkering with a piece of styrofoam
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/2/4/1/1251241-33587-36-720.jpg)
Used my new hot-wire cutter to make a chunk of foam with some more or less straight edges as a base
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/2/4/2/1251242-33587-11-720.jpg)
The vehicle itself is practically finished. I have yet to do some work on the diorama terrain and decide wether to put a ditch in front of the vehicle and a small hill or a wall/ fence behind it
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/9/7/1/1251971-33587-96-720.jpg)
Basic construction of the base: it is made from a foam base covered with air drying clay to match the vehicle´s wheels. Texture will be refined with acrylic pastes.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/9/3/0/1253930-33587-95-720.jpg)
Textures have been applied to the base
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/9/3/1/1253931-33587-87-720.jpg)
I wanted to experiment and coated the sides with some concrete-texture instead of framing them with balsa... I´m curious how it will look in the end or if I´ll have to sand it down
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/8/5/2/1258852-33587-94-720.jpg)
Some painting on the base: Tamiya paints for the basic earth tones and AK acrylics for details as such as individual stones etc.
I also smoothed out the texture on the sides as I was not entirely happy with it. It then got painted using some black craft-store paint

The build is finished and I have a little base to go with it 👍

I have already tried this kit, however, the assembly went completely wrong.
A year later I ordered it again and hope that the next attempt went better🙂
So: follow your progress!

The alignment of those multi-part hulls and turrets is indeed a challenge and I can easily see it going wrong to be honest. While I had only minor problems with this particular kit, I do remeber having issues with the hull of the Centauro I built some time ago. After all I think those kits are worth putting in that little extra-effort!

Hope to see the BTR-82, but Alexey said he won't do "ruSSian" armor anymore...
Maybe as Ukrainian vehicle...

Can´t blame him for that decision at all... However, converting this kit to a BTR-82 seems to be plausible and I had once given it some thought. The hardest part of said rework would in my mind be resculpting the turret front. Engine deck-changes should be achievable by cutting out/sanding down the old details and scratchbuilding the new ones. As hinte however, this will be task for someone more confident in their scratchbuilding-ability than I have in mine at the moment 🙂

Nice results so far👍
Like your dust base layer, nice effect
Still watching your progress...

It´s taking shape! Nice thing to watch your progress!
Good idea to cover the sides of the base with texture past, i think that's a good way.

Spectacular finish👍👍
Vehicle, base and paint job fits very well together!
What do you use for the tail lights, or they are painted? And wich color have you used for the green?

For the green I went with a mix from Tamiya Dark Green and NATO Green. The mix was then lightened up with Deck Tan for highlights. The taillights are basecoated with an acrylic silver paint and then I applied Tamiya Clear Red onto it 👍
