Like the planes. Like to see them in flighr. Like the effort you put in.
Feel you when putting pilots properly in and closing wheel well doors.
Anxious for the paint job.

CAT4 1:48 F-8 Crusader conversion - first look1:48
The manufacturer issued this correction for the nose. Hopefully it works

CAT4 coming to the rescue with what seems like a nice set of parts that can backdate the Hasegawa F-8E. While we all really want a full kit tooled by someone, getting conversion kits is the next best thing, and the ones out there are all but impossible to obtain, and none of them really capture the shape of the nose very well. Not anymore, for the moment at least. Tonight I got a good look at the nose shape of the new kit and find it compares well to reference photos. Next up is seeing how it fits on the F-8 fuselage, which means some plastic surgery.

Added some more photos comparing the kits with 1:48 F-8C scale drawings from the Muroc kit. So far I like the overall shape, but the front plate where the radome connects makes the nose a little too long overall. Might just need to shave it down and blend the shape some.

Hi guys! Sergej that one will be 1/48 as I have the decals in that scale. Unsure at this point but there's a bunch of VF-24 jets that are great choices. Also there's Dick Schaffert's too
I got the CAT4 conversions for 1/48 coming in the mail. If they turn out to be good sets I have a few jets in mind including VF-84, since who can resist those flames?

Basically done! Aside from the rigging wire, which I will attach when it gets in. After that I'll upload the beauty shots. Now to clean up my very messy workbench and get the next project going!

Hans just saw your Crusader on Modeling Madness, awesome build. You really did a superb job on that old Monogram kit, I think you can graduate to better kits now.
Respectfully,
John B.

Thanks John and Tommy! Your praise means a lot, and it was cool to see it featured by Scott. And yeah it'll be awhile before I build another one of these for sure 😄

Anyone have a good source for 1/72 Vietnam-era US Navy pilots? Seems like my best bet so far is to scrounge through older kits, not finding much

Not sure if you'll find exactly what you're looking for, but do take a look at Reedoak SCM Brand: Reedoak - more specifically: reedoak.com/#!/1-72/c/13281312

Hi Rando, unfortunately that's a subject surprisingly badly represented in 1:72. Still, we have this one here
US NAVY Pilot with bag - Vie..73 (Aerobonus 720 028, 1:72)
But it's just one pose. You can buy two or more and slightly alter the pose.

Thanks Marius, so it's not just me—really is because nobody makes it! It's too bad since I just need two figures that are seated, the most basic modeling pilot pose, lol. I'll probably just have to buy a few cheap 1/72 kits that I know have pilot figures so I can build what I have in mind, since idk if I can alter that resin figure that much.
