Jagdbombergeschwader 34 „Allgäu“
Memmingen, 22. October 1959

Two Luftwaffe F-84F scrambled from the Memmingen AFB around 9am for a navigation sortie over Bavaria. They got lost shortly after reaching operational height because of bad weather. While looking for the way home, they unintentionally crossed Czechoslovakian border - the Iron curtain. During the descent below the clouds, leader clipped drop tanks by the trees on the Lžičák hill, ejected immediately. The wingman panicked and ejected too. They both landed without injuries in the woods, where they were captured by the soldiers on the border watch. After the fall of the Iron curtain a friend of mine dug the remaining debris after four year long search on the Dyleň mountain where both Thunderstreaks crashed. The group discovered Wright J65-W-3 engine, Browning M3 .50 in caliber machine gun, airbrake shield, and much more.

Updated the gallery with the possibly only existing photo of the airframe and corrected serial and registration numbers. Now I need to know if they had the JaboG34 emblem on the front fuselage or not. Patiently waiting for the answer from the JaboG34 museum in Memmingen.
