Personal interest:
This model represents a Su-15TM equipped to intercept high-value targets such as the E-3 and RC-135 aircraft that operated out of Alaska. Due to a combination of budget constraints following the collapse of the Soviet Union and newer aircraft becoming available, the Su-15TM was rapidly decommissioned from the VVS. The 22nd IAP was disbanded in 1992 along with the last of the Su-15TM aircraft. As such, although we did not know it at the time, the Su-15TM was no longer a significant threat during my Alaskan tour with the US Air Force.
