I bought this through E-Bay, only to find the kit had already been started, and a couple of key pieces were missing. Fortunately, I was refunded, and the seller let me keep the model.
In order to build it, I had to pour a couple of replacement resin pieces; it cost me more for the resin and casting material than I paid for the kit! Still, in the end, it turned out quite well. Because it was much more work, I think I have a soft spot for this one over the yellow/red Labrador

Thanks guys for your interest and comments. This project will be finished next year. I am getting all stuff for the project. The first pictures are "dry-fitting" with base model (HB kit).

OK. Well I decided since I was bogged down in my other builds, Id go ahead and do this one.
Frank Frazetta has always been a favorite of mine. I fell in love with his stuff seeing the covers of Conan paperbacks. Then in 78 the first Molly Hatchet album came out with this as its cover. I bought that album based SOLELY on that cover as it was their first and I hadnt heard them yet. LOL Luckily they were a great band. LOL
There is a Frazetta museum here in Stroudsburg PA, about 3 hours from my house. Im planning on taking this there and taking pics of it there. IF it comes out worth a damn.
OK, so, its a relatively simple build. BUT, as you can see, while the fit is OK, it has serious seems. *sigh* Its gonna require a little more work than I was hoping for.
I am not attaching the arms or head to the rider yet, nor the cloak. Those will be painted then attached to make it easier. The things like reigns are separate pieces that will get painted then all put together.
Next session is getting those seams done.

After way more work on the seams than should have been necessary, initial flat black coat on. I sprayed the head after the pic. Also the base in dark earth as a base for that.

Frazettas Death Dealer is really cool, I have the kit too. But bringing his style into color on a three-dimensional model is not easy.

Thank you Erik. 🙂
Started with some of the easier detail painting. Still working out how to shade the horse.

I have been busy with life and new toys. Got a resin 3D printer, so been messing with that quite a bit. Im gonna do a post on that separate.
I have gotten quite a bit done on this one. Some more detail things to do, the ax, the sword and it will be done. Have some seams I realized I missed to do also. But nothing awful. And do a little more "weathering". So next post will be it completed.

So he is all done. While the details are awesome, and I understand they are bringing a 2D image to a model, the fit should have been better. And it has some design issues, especially the sword. All that being said, it turned out great I think. If you get it, just be aware it takes a bit of work, but worth it.

If I do them in batches of 8 I need 11 batches for each side. That helps me keep count.

Oh good, peer pressure, that'll keep me from slacking off. ^_^ I'm up to six 8-link sections of track so far, 16 to go. I had a panic moment where I was afraid I'd bought the wrong tracks, so the first thing I assembled from the Trumpeter kit proper was the sprocket wheels. And whew they do fit! Got a start on the lower hull too before bedtime.

I've been curious about metal tracks. I find the plastic individual links hard to work with but maybe I just need more practice.

I'm still figuring this website out, is the 2nd photo visible? I'm halfway there with the track, 11 of 22 sections, and in addition to the sprockets I've got the idlers and all the road wheels assembled. I was hoping to finish all of Step 1 as well, but I had some fit problems with the upper deck. Did it have to be in 3 pieces, Trumpeter? 😛
For one part of the rear, there's a choice of plastic or PE parts, and I had a go at trying the PE, using a tool handle that was about the right diameter as a mandrel. It didn't come out perfect, but I was looking at photos online of a real KV-85 on display in St Petersburg--the kit instructions were a little unclear about how it should look once assembled--and the real flange has a good big dent in it too. So I figure I'm good. ^_^
Following some old advice I remember from ~20 years ago when I first heard of Friul tracks, I'm using sewing pins rather than the softer wire that comes with the tracks. The fit is snug enough that I can press two links together and they will (4 times out of 5) stay put long enough to slide the pin in. Couple things I've learned the hard way: 1) gotta use a pin vise to drill them out, as hard as it is on my poor old wrists. Using a Dremel, it's too easy to do irreversible damage too fast; 2) don't cut off the pin heads and glue the pins down until I'm REALLY REALLY sure I've got them in the right order.
Two days, 11 sections totaling 88 tracks, and I've only stabbed myself with a pin 3 times. Go me.

Yes, the second photo is visible. You can go into the album, click edit, then for "teaser" select "use last image" and then click "save and close" if you want the newest picture to always show.
I would never have guessed to use sewing pins for this, yeah I think drilling all those holes with a pin vise sounds like fun for my arthritis.
