There's gonna be some filler on this kit. Sink holes everywhere.

So, I started this, basically to keep my sanity. It's an old kit, and I won it on eBay, years ago. I love the look of the truck, so let's see what I can do with it?

This isn't the "Walk in the park" kit, that I thought it was, Martin. I've tried the hot water treatment, on the cab, with no effect. So, it's a ceramic tile on the radiator, and weight on the roof. Hopefully, tomorrow will see some better results?

My food dehydrator I use for drying painted items has a variable temp setting. Would anything like that help with the cab? I.e. a constant heat flow around the cab may soften it allowing it be reshaped.

I like that idea, Nigel. I unfortunately, don't own a hairdryer, but I do have a heat gun. I don't particularly want to use it. As I type now, the tile and weight method, is underway. The heating and cooling of the radiator, should assist the process, but you've definitely given me a new train of thought.
Thankyou, my friend. The collective minds of the hive, strike again 👍

Wow, I didn't realise how long it's been!
I've been tinkering on with this, along with many other projects, when time allows. I'll pick up on the pictures tomorrow.

The saga of the cab warpage, didn't get any better. Even after 2 weeks on the radiator and a week outside in the sun, nothing happened. So I painted it and consoled myself, that once the clear parts were added, and the interior, that would stiffen things up and back in shape? Then suddenly, a cheap Peterbilt 352 kit, appeared on eBay. Three days later, it was in my hands. Cab was perfect, so black it went!

Nice work Bozzer. That gloss black is really reflective. Happy that you managed to buy yet another kit 😂

Thanks mate. I'm a bit gutted about the decals, and they took an awful long time, to get anything like they should be.
My advice to anyone thinking about building this kit, is to ditch the decals and use them as templates, for airbrushing. Much quicker, more effective, and no headache.

The main difficulty with this kit is the fitting of engines.
Other big problem is the missing of rear engine ventilation : did not find any solution to correct it !
Good luck !

Thank you for the warnings, I already had the idea to do engines completely open, now I think that is a good idea. What do you mean with rear engine ventilation?

There are 14 sloys on each nacelle, 7 each side, that were made on Jumo 004B to prevent the deposit of oil and fuel leaks and so to avoid fires on the ground.
Very curiously, Airfix forgot them !!!
There are no 262 perfect representation at this scale yet ! And each have their qualities ! Now i mix them...

Thank you for the info, probably i will go for engines totally exposed without fairings. i have to build the surface under the wing with milliput and 3d print the engine

Pulling up a seat too 👀
I do like the airfix kit, but it is a bit simplified in some areas.
Where did you get those engines from?

A very unusual and rare aircraft, very well built and beautiful displayed. Thank you for sharing. 2014: I haven't been to Scalemates yet, no wonder I missed the album.

Very nice overall, but the neatly painted tartan is the high-light for me. Can you elaborate on how you did this, please?

Absolute nice scene! Well done! 👍 But what happened to the rotorhead? Got too hot in the desert?😉

Gentlemen, thank you for your interest in my diorama and your appreciation! Holger, I built this one in 1999, so I don´t remember the whereabout of the rotorhead and the temperatures. I was naive and trusted in the brand name of the kit manufacturer MRC (Model Rectifier Corporation). Help me: Where should the rotorhead be placed and how does it look like?

Moin! Gerade auf Bild 19 fällt die Ausrichtung des gesamten Rotors auf. Der müßte eigentlich kerzengerade sein und nicht nach vorn und hinten runterhängen. Daher mein Spaß mit der Hitze.😉

Vielen Dank, Holger.

Not a new build, just better pictures with my new camera. - And I readjusted the rotor blades according to Holgers proposal.

The fact that this build is already over 20 years old, makes the very high skill level even more obvious !
Another super dense atmospheric dio off the bench of Neuling- Works 👍

Thanks a lot mates! Much appreciated! - Jean-Michel, my old Panasonic was good, but my new Sony is better indeed (and admittedly I´ve learned about diorama photography here on scalemates). - John, the rotor head of the kit is okay, the drooping rotors were my own mistake.

Not only are your builds stunning. Its your photography that sets you apart . Your use of lighting, shadows and the realistic POV angels is an enviable talent.

Your dios always leave me speechless - the builds, details, choreography and the photos are just done to perfection. My only complaint is that anyone can spend too much time looking at so many little details done to perfection that they may forget to finish their own kits!
