Nissan Skyline GT-R
Upgrading the air intake filter on this one
Removing the original air filter box
Adding a spacer/adapter for the new filter
The new filter. This one is from Scale Production.
Building a strut bar from scratch. This is 4.8mm polystyrene tube.
Made the hole bigger using a file
Repeated steps to get two
For the bar I am using a 1.0x3.2mm polystyrene strip
Once cut to size I used a metal ruler to bend the ends
Glued together and kept in place to hold its shape. Once dried it will be removed, cleaned up and painted.
Exhaust upgrade under way
Popsicle stick inserted into 3.2mm styrene tube
Tube hollowed out to thin the sides
1.8mm hole to be drilled into the old manifold, matching the inner dimensions of the popsicle stick.
Hole drilled.
Gear knob upgrade
0.4mm hole drilled to make way for the new gear stick and knob
New gear knob scratch made using milliput.
Engine block completed
Red is SMS red over black base followed by Tamiya clear red airbrushed.
Put my finger right on the front piece before it was dry. Tried to salvage it best I could
Dirtied up with some Tamiya DarkBrown Panel Liner
Exhaust tip done in SMS Super Silver
Brake discs done in SMS Super Silver and callipers done in SMS Red and a top coat of Tamiya Clear Red.
Shocks done the same as the callipers. Springs are Molotow Chrome Pen.
Mr Surfacer Black is my new Tamiya X-18. Detailing is SMS Super Silver and Molotow Chrome.
Strut bar painted in SMS Super Silver
Mr Surfacer White followed by SMS white
Ready for decals and detailing!
So, the R32 Twin Turbo has two air intakes. I ordered these bad boys and arrived tofay
Also ordered an intercooler. Got the Nismo stencil coming too, so that will be good to try out on this.
Painted in Mr Surfacer and SMS Super Silver
SMS Super
Bar done in SMS Electric Blue over SMS Jet Black
Discs in SMS Super Silver. Callipers in SMS Red with a coat of Tamiya Clear Red over it.
SMS Pearl Blue/Green Flip over SMS Jet Black.
SMS Super Clear added
Masked sections remained in Mr Surfacer
Strut bar finished with Nismo decal.
Decals added to wheels. Clear Coat to come.
Dashboard completed.
Masked up for second colour. I'll be doing black with Tamiya German Grey this time.
German Grey done! Just flocking to go.
First time using one of these PE stencils...
Not bad, not bad at all.
Clear coated wheels.
Random pieces of sprue chosen for their shape and length will be used as the hose connections to the new air filtrr
New air filters installed.
Should have dry fitted this before doing the stencil. It is way too high.
Masked up for a redo.
Clear coat and tyres on wheels.
Wheels on.
New gear knob. My attempt at an eight ball. Gear stick is a stee guitar string.
Interior done.
Not my best glue work.
Interior attached.
SMS Jet Black as the base coat
Stencil redone.
Windows masked and painted.
So, this is the cracked bonnet from the first Skyline I did. Since this one won't be see through, I figured I'd give it a fill in and sand.
Looks better than it did.
PE detail set for under the bonnet.
These went together well. Coated in SMS Etch Primer.
Glued to bonnet with CA glue. It's a little crooked, which I didn't realise at the time, oops. May have to revisit this.
SMS Pearl Blue Green Flip.
The camera makes it look more blue, but irl it looks more green. Decals to come...
This did not come out well. The etch primer may have to be brushed or dipped.
And it lifted. Gahhhh. Going to redo this.
Intercooler and hoses connected. I cheaped out and bought some braided hose from eBay. Nowhere near as good as the Tamiya stuff.
Strut bar installed. Engine bay completed!
Second attempt. Not good. Demoting this to the group build Skyline (follow there for more progress on this part). Stealing the clear bonnet for this build.
Completed!!
Twinning!!

Another one! This was the spare kit I ended up buying so I could use the bonnet for the group build. The bonnet in this kit is the cracked one, which will need a fair bit of love to get looking right.

Engine looks wonderful. Could write down which metalics/metalizer you used?

CasModeler, thank you! The shiny stuff is SMS Super Silver, sprayed lightly at about 10-15psi. The rest is either SMS Aluminium (the lighter) or SMS Stainless Steel (the darker). I sprayed these at around 20-25psi at a distance to intentionally create orange peel, so that I could replicate that powder coated cast iron look. I then hit them with a flat coat. All metallics are over a black base.

Forgot to add... I also put a wash over the flat pieces using Tamiya Panel Liner. Black for accenting and Dark Brown for oil & dirt build up.

Waiting for some braided hoses to complete this build. The bonnet is frustrating so I'll wait until I'm in the right mindset for that. Then just 2k over the the rest and we're pretty much there!

I'm thinking I might steal the clear bonnet from the group build Skyline and show off this one a little more. The second bonnet is too stuffed to be clear now, so it can be a painted one for the GB Skyline. That one will have the added PE detail. I'll update the projects on here. 🙂
