AMX-50B - Modernized

Armour texturing applied to turret, turret cradle, and front armour. Armour texture made using Tamiya putty and plastic cement.

Modern optic/range finder/magical black box on the right of the turret built using leftover bits from "Tamiya Challenger 1 MK.3" and "Meng AMX-30B2". 

Electrical cables made using extra rubber cables from "HobbyBoss GCT 155mm AU-F1 SPH Based on T-72". 

 

The theme for the modernization is based on the fictional Charles Martel 3D skin from World of Tanks and the real world AMX-30B2 used in the Persian Gulf War which are both deserterized. I found the engine deck to be rather boring and flat so I took some artistic liberties and added "enhanced radiators" to help keep the engines cool in the desert heat. 

Playing around with stowage locations. 

Probably going to paint the ammo canisters OD green and the fuel tanks red to add some accent colours. 

 

 

Camo done. First time doing a 3 colour scheme and first time doing organic shapes instead of just straight edges. Masking was a pain. Gave up half way through on hand cutting masks out of tape and started using sticky tack. Worth the time and effort though. The colour scheme is inspired by the desert camo found on the ResinScales AMX50B product pics.  

Camo was painted using Vallejo Bonewhite, Tamiya TS-1 Red Brown, and Tamiya TS-98 Pure Orange. All from spray cans. Disappointed with the Vallejo spray cans recently, the Bonewhite ended up leaving a sandpaper texture and an earlier can of Black had adhesion issues. I've never had issues before so I might have to look elsewhere moving forward. 

 

 

 

 

Details painted up by brush using acrylics from Citadel and Vallejo. 

Weld beads painted silver to give worn effect. 

Applied two acrylic filters to wheels, chassis and turret using the following process:
1. AK Worn Effects 1st pass
2. Heavily diluted Tamiya XF-59
3. Chip using water and rough brush
4. AK Worn Effects 2nd pass
5. Ammo Mig Acrylic Filter Medium Grey (0805)
6. Chip using water and rough brush
