For sanding the primer I use Tamiya 3000 grit sponges and Mirka Mirlon ultrafine wool, all dry

By holding the surface against the light you can check for irregularities, dimples in the surface or if you missed some seam lines

When applying primer you end up with a bit of a rougher texture, but this is easily smoothened with the pads. In general when sanding primer, less is more.

A close up and a good angle against the light reveals the scratches from sanding the plastic during preparation, mind I just used 1500 paper and superfine wool! But it looks worse than it actually is, the Tamiya sponges work like magic...

This is the look I am going for btw, Pure white with golden rims and a red logotype. I think this is a nice combo.

For the white Tamiya suggests TS-45 pearl white, I went as always with the "real" paint, LC9A Pure White automotive lacquer.

I painted the body and all the accessory parts separately which significantly lowers the chance of dust accumulation and just makes the whole process more relaxed and unhurried

before the final coat of clear I smoothened the dust particles with 2000 grit paper and went over the whole surface with Mirka superfine wool, over the decals as well. It is very fine so there is no damage to the decals but it creates a nice rough surface for better paint adhesion

I do not find anything wrong with X-18, it is a fantastic paint but to further investigate the issue and broaden my horizon I ordered some LP paints to see what the fuzz is all about

Glossy paint on the other hand are a different story, like this Italian red for the brake calipers. I never liked glossy acrylic paints from the X-range, they dry very slow and leave fingerprints even after days. This one dries literally in 10 minutes and the gloss is stupid

Weirdly the X series acrylic paint is compatible with Tamiya's Lacquer Thinner, and it then acts a lot like lacquer. I have switched to buying lacquers only but still have some X series acrylics that I will ONLY put through an airbrush once thinned with their lacquer thinner.

@Alexander I'm still new to polishing paint, especially metallics, but my 1st gen Civic build was sprayed with X-34 thinned with Tamiya Lacquer Thinner. Main reason I've switched to this is using acrylic thinner constantly clogged my AB tip with the weather here.

@Martin it's wild how prices change per locale, a jar of LP is a little less than half the price of a rattle can here and covers 3-5 times as much sprayed through an airbrush. (The low end of coverage is yellows and reds, of course.)
