This machine was flown by Alfred Surau, an ace with 45 (46) victories. Surau scored his first kill in Russia on February 28, 1943, where he served with 9th/JG 3. He scored his first kill on the Western Front on September 6, 1943, when he was credited with two victories over B-17 bombers. Two more followed on October 1. Surau last went into combat on October 14, 1943, when he was part of the defense against the second raid by American forces on Schweinfurt.
