This looks like the start of a great project! What's not to like about a Spook? And those colourful Navy birds are the best. Will you use the VF-111 scheme?

Awesome!! I'm in!! Gotta love the Phantom!! I've got this kit and I've been wondering if there is any issues I should look out for?

I hope it will be a great project .... 😉
Yes, I got the idea to build a series of different typs o the "Sundowners" or the "Jolly Rogers" during the ages ... I like these schemes ...

Hi Brandon, Thanks.
I think the intakes are the issue on this one .... the overall fit of the kit is good.
Take your time with the intakes ... the setup is a bit "complicated".
Don't stick to the instructions, dryfit is the key and then put all together in your own way. So you can avoid nasty gabs and a lot of sanding ...

I know what you mean, Albi. A collection of different planes with similar markings is very interesting, and both the Jolly Rogers and Sundowners are cool. I have a growing collection of USN planes that have Felix the Cat on them. Most recently associated with VF-31, this actually started back with biplanes! Felix has been holding that bomb for a long, long time. 🙂

@Bill: RESPECT!!! What an eye-catcher! (how many hours you spend with decaling?)

Albi - I don't recall exactly. I tend to suppress bad memories. It was not as bad as it seems, though. Almost everything you see is a decal. The fuselage white is, of course, paint, as are the black fin and radome. And the metal areas, exhaust etc. The decal sheet was from Platz.

Gorgeous! Another beauty 👍 👍 👍. Very well done and the weathering is great! I always say, "It's not too weathered until there's mud on top of the turret."😉

Thank you mates for the kind comments.
@Martyn: Neither am I. Its my 2nd ... its little different to the piston engine ones ...
@Bernhard: Its fun! The intakes are the weak point of this kit .... take your time with dry fitting and don't stick to the instructions and it fits well (in the end) ...

Sweet! The Sundowners had such cool schemes. Albi, when my brother got back from Nam he was stationed at Homestead AFB in Florida. One time when I visited him, we stood just outside the fence at the far end of the runway and watched the F-4s taking off. When two of those bad boys pass over your head at an altitude of nought metres (a little higher than nought feet) with full reheat, well, the noise is incredible. One of those experiences in life that you never forget. 🙂

Thanks again mates for the compliments and the kind words.
@Christian: I would, but this kit is such a pleasure, go for it ... 😉
@John: Almost 98% of the decals are on the model ... it takes a little while, but its worth the effort...
