Build #12 Tamiya 14035 scale Honda CBR400F (naked bike)
Tamiya 14035 1:12 scale Honda CBR400F (naked bike) - Box art
All the sprues and parts laid out before the build, gives you an idea whats inside the box, as it's an 80's kit theres not as many parts as the newer kits but that chrome stuff is still in there
As usual I started by painting all the wee fiddly bits and bobs and then assembled the major sub assemblies such as the engine and rear swing arm assembly
my favourite part of the build - the engine - 4 cylinder in line 400cc four stroke, picture is not the best sorry but a nice contrast between the semi-gloss black engine with gloss black covers, chromed carbs and detailing on the cooling fins and gloss al
eft side of engine showing some of the detailing with the two frame halves either side painted and ready to go together
rear swingarm sub assembly with wheel detailing the rear brake caliper and disc with other parts such as the airbox and rear shockie around it
as with almost all Tamiya bike builds the next stage is fitting the engine to the frame along with the airbox and rear swingarm, also shows the chain and rear sprocket detailing
top down view showing the 4 spark plugs which they decided to just link together with the ht leads as they are hidden by the fuel tank in final assembly but can be seen from the side, bank of 4 carbs and huuge airbox
right side detail with the battery, it calls out in the instructions for the battery to be painted but its hidden by the rear cowling, anways I know it's there lol
sorry for the rather out of focus picture but it shows an explosion of parts painted and ready for the next stages of the build usually starting with the exhaust next followed by the front suspension if you follow the Tamiya order of build
jumped on a wee bit here, exhausts fitted followed by the fuel tank and rear cowling which is all one piece and has been painted and fitted along with assembling and fitting the front end of the bike
Looks like a bit of dust on the front mudguard there I will need to check that lol, one oil cooler pipe fitted waiting for the glue to set to fit the other one
starting to look like a bike now but that black shows every fingerprint, I might mask that off and go over with a clear coat to tidy it up later
Top down view waiting on the seat, handlebars etc, still painting the seat by hand, I really can't wait to get my airbrush

Cheap and cheerful sub £20.00 kit and I am half way through the build, had some issues with the gloss black due to fingerprints etc but nothing I can't tidy up or overcome.
Painted by hand as usual using Tamiya Acrylics and TS14 gloss black.
This is my most recent build and is still on the bench and will probably be the last one until I get my new airbrush in the new year.
