Revell Spitfire Mk.22/24
the boxart,,,cool but the box sucks. This is of course RoG, Revell of Germany
This is how the decals come. the sheet is huge, near 14x8 in. not the usualheavy smooth on one side protector sheet, just plain thin tracing paper and no sleve or bag.

,,,,i had to cut it to protect it from further damage
,,,,as it's so big it wont fit in a Priority envelope!
,,,,and some in the middle are messed up but hard to show w/my camera
here we go again,,,,box is way too big,,,
everything stupped into one single taped shut bag.
I read all the reviews on this kit,,,,,
,,,so i knew what to expect as far as the molds go
I've built worse,,,,
it's really not a BAD kit
it's a good kit for an old reissue
the glass,,, no surprise,,,actually better than i expected
but here's where the damage comes, this wing has some pretty nasty gouges from being stuffed in that one bag
the 2 broken bits I fould
the large one is obviously the landing gear leg wheel axle pin
part #35 is obviously broken off,,,
there should be a pin for the tail wheel here, but that small piece is too small for that
it actually doesn't look broken off, awful clean break & where's the piece?
pilot guy looks pretty good. Nice mustache!

here's the rub. all those trees packed in that bag, sliding around in that oversized box,,,actually wore several holes in the bag. I can see how a small piece could get out and totally disappear

Robert W MartelWell, I knew what I was in for before I bought this kit. It's a Matchbox re-issue, I read all the reviews, sink marks, bad this & that. I knew what to expect.
I's not that it's a bad kit, it's actually pretty good for an old re-issue, I like it.
It's just another case of bad packaging. One size does not fit all!!
I must say I've never liked the Revell open end carton boxes, they suck. Totally weak, unstackable & unuseable, period, they're junk !!
Airfix's box suffers from the same one size fits all mentality, but at least they supply a good, sturdy, stackable, useable box.
And again all of the trees are "stuffed" into one bag. And not even a sealed bag, but just taped shut, and no shrink wrap either.
At first all looked good until I opened the bag and a couple (2) tiny pieces fell out. The top of one of the wings is pretty scratched up. there's another broken part, but I'm not finding the piece of it.
And the decal sheet is near destroyed !!

Robert W MartelOH ! this being a 2007 release I sure hope Revell is still sending replacements for it. I'll send in a request tonite.

Robert W MartelOk so I put a parts request to Revell, but seeing this kit is 10 yrs old AND a RoG kit, I don't have much hope. I'll make it work either way, but new parts & decals would be nice.

Robert W MartelYea it kinda sucks guys, it's frustrating. That's the second "NEW" kit in a row!
I'm beginning to wonder Wilky. Their website says 8 weeks for ROG parts, if they're even available. that's a lot of suspense. Revell has always been tops about replacing broken or missing parts I've had with a few car kits, but those were relatively recent releases.
When it comes down to it I can still build it. The broken pieces are both axle pins and can be fixed. The decals aren't destroyed, just some wrinkles and one scratched, mostly useable.
It's just the point of the whole thing. I bought the kit from Hobbylinc, a reputable seller, it was brand new. It's the packaging! Too much empty space for the parts to float around in, and everything stuffed into one bag, in a POS box!. A couple of 2c airbags would solve the problem. I cant be the only person having this problem!

wilkyI'm often left wondering why some kit boxes are so big. Maybe it's a marketing thing but surely the bigger the box the more it costs. I also hate those flimsy boxes surely protection of the contents should override the penny pinching desire of the kit manufacturers. It's not like they aren't already charging us a fortune for a kit nowadays

Hubert KendziorekRobert, don't worry about broken, scratched or missing parts in this box, anything you scratch-built here will be better than OOB part. Know something about it, as I'm currently building this kit and it is ... well, let's say: fun. As for the decals, in this scale masks work much better. Hubert, I'll have to take a look at yours. I do rather like painting on the roundels & such better yes. I like the Montex maxi mask sets for that, but have only done a couple. they do look more realistic & don't have to worry if they're going to stick!
