Dan Jayne Memorial Jagdtiger
Myself and Judy. She was nice, and had many stories to tell about Dan's conversions and attention to detail.
sorry for the tilt. this is Dan jayne's desk and the kit, boxed up for transit.
I've now done some work on the kit. Here i have first laid down a red primer coat, then added the photo etch engine screens, along with the main gun. I sourced a metal barrel from an existing kit, and sanded off the old paint to make way for the new.
Used a method of chipping i discovered on youtube. as you can see by the next array of photos, the red has been chipped through the yellow quite nicely.
I've accented the chips with some metallic paint, to give them the appearance of depth.
the problem with this technique is that the chips aren't in any way planned, nor are they easy to remove gently.
each time i look at this model i find more chips i missed. i will remember to take pictures next time before i paint.
the back deck will largely be covered, so i refrained from chipping as much back here.
all the bits and bobs are now ready. Decals on, and chipped. weathering to continue, and detail painting.
she's ready for tracks!
And the tracks are on!
weathering to start almost immediately
looks a little bare, but that's only because it's not weathered yet. next few pictures will be of tools.
And she's finished! I forgot to take pictures of my tools and such as i went, sorry. I just decided to spend all day finishing her up
my first model with a bucket! i will be working on bucket rust as time goes on.
i like the way the tracks turned out. sometimes the brush-applied flat aluminum looks artificial. it doesn't this time.
streaking is an inexact science, and it's often tough to know when to stop. I feel comfortable with what i did on this.
i know fire extinguishers aren't red when externally mounted, well, i like the color variation red provides.
the chipping really looks good after all the stuff gets put on. i like it.
Finally got it into a decent photo shoot!
at certain angles, the pipe looks like a log. IT'S A PIPE.
The base was inherited from a pile of boards Judy brought for us to dig through. i use it for display purposes.

That's nice. I wish you luck with the project and I'll be interested to see the end result.

final major construction complete. My next task is to get the tracks done, and for that i will be using my older, crappy jagdtiger which happens to be the same kit as a template.

Guys, this project feels better and better as it gets closer to completion. Thank you for all your kind words about this. I added tracks last night, and will proceed with weathering as soon as i'm sure the tracks are set.

Album info
I am honored to be completing work from the legendary Dan Jayne. His widow Judy approached me to finish the kit Dan had started and which sat on his desk for the year since his passing. the first pictures here are of he kit and dan's desk, and myself, pictured with Judy.
