Thanks Glenn, Björn, Rene, Sören, Spanjaard, Maciej, James, Harry, Urban, Michael, Ricardo, Martien, Bart, John, Roland, Peter, Plici, Murad, Gorby, and Patrick! I really appreciate all of your kind words and am glad you like it!

Urban, ya know, deciding on a load for this model was very difficult. The kit comes with no weapons, and good references are not easy to find for this aircraft (I am also not the best researcher). I was concerned that I might not get the load just right, but I did use some pics as reference. I am actually interested to know what the mistakes are, as I believe the weapon locations are correct as per pics I have seen. One thing I DO know is wrong is the markings on the RB 75 (Maverick). I just put the decals that came with the missiles from Eduard even though they are US markings. I couldn't find anything for Swedish RB 75s.

Haha Patrick, the glare shield is the best part of the model, thanks to you! Now it doesn't look totally wrong in a prominent place. Sure am glad someone pointed that out to me... 🙂

Patrick Hagelstein
You're welcome! 😄
10 April 2018, 03:07
Peter Jenssen
The loadout is one of my weak points, so I'm just sticking RB 04 anti shipping missiles on mine! 🙂
I know it varies between variants, but I think a problem would be to mix air to air with air to ground on the Viggen?
10 April 2018, 03:57
Konrad -
Very nice an absolutely eyecatching viggen!!!
10 April 2018, 08:16
Ronan
Absolutely gorgeous, Michael😉
10 April 2018, 08:37
Urban Gardini
Yes the mistake is that you've mixed inert ARAK M/70B rockets and Rb 74 together with live Rb 75. Green is the colour for inert munitions (marked "Blind" in Swedish). The other mistake is that the AJ didn't mount anything on the outer stations due to vibrations in the wing so the Rb 74 shouldn't be mounted at all. It was fixed on the JA and possibly on the AJS (I'm not sure there) so they could mount the Rb 74 there without any problems.

Paul Moore
Can you tell me about the stand? Beautiful job on this model!
10 April 2018, 10:38
Peter Jenssen
Hi Urban, do you know if it was possible to mix air to air and air to ground missiles?
I seem to remember you have to choose?
(-a bit of a safety issue mixing live and inert I guess? 😉 )
Interesting about the vibration problem. Was there never anything carried on the outer pylons of AJ37 then?

Sorry to say this, but it looked to me like there are too many strakes for the inboard flaps, so I checked my kit and there appears to be a mistake in the instructions.
For AJ37 (as opposed to JA), parts 111 and 112 should not be used.
Sorry for not spotting this earlier..
10 April 2018, 10:49
Urban Gardini
I'm not sure but as the AJ don't have a gun it would've been wise to load Rb 74 together with suitable strike weapons for the job at hand. But I've seen photos of AJ loaded with four ARAK and nothing else. No, nothing on the outer station on the AJ as it wasn't a good idea to do so. They relied on JA for self defense and often used two pairs with two AJ for the strike and two JA or one JA + SK37E flying cover.

Urban Gardini
And yes, I forgot to say it earlier. I just love the stand!

Thanks Konrad, Ronan, Paul, And Urban!

Urban and Peter, thanks for the clarification on the load issues. I had an inkling that the green was for training munitions, but I wasn't sure. Now it makes sense that I have a mixed load that would not happen. You sure do know your Viggen stuff Urban!

Paul, the stand is homemade. But it is really not hard to make, nor expensive. First, I bought some 6" x 8" gloss black trophy blanks for the base. The metal stand is 1/2" wide and 1/16" thick aluminum bar, bought in 3 foot length. I then cut the 3 feet into 3 one foot lengths. Now I have enough metal bars to do two more in-flight builds on top of this one. I then drilled two holes on each end of the one foot length. I then bent it to the shape I wanted by hand. I then drilled two small starter holes into the model, then screwed two self tapping M8x3/8" screws through the holes in the metal into the holes in the model. Very secure attachment. I did the same thing on the wood plaque, and used the same size self-tapping screws to attach the stand and model to the base. I had to use a short screwdriver to do this as there was not enough room under the model for a normal length screwdriver.

The little clear plaque with the information on it is a baseball card holder. I made the information card in Adobe Illustrator, to the size of a baseball card (3.5" x 2.5"😢 and printed it out on color paper, inserted it into the card holder, and then attached it to the base using blu-tac. That's it!

If anyone has any other questions about my stand please let me know, I will be glad to answer!

Michael, thanks so much for that detailed description of the construction of the stand. I bought a generic stand on Amazon that is very nice but the personalized stand you made turns it into a presentation. I've made a B-17 that my father flew but I've been wanting to add that personal presentation. I think I'll give it a go. Thanks again for taking the time provide such a detailed description.

Thanks so much Kees, Jens, Busch, and Przemek! I always appreciate and am humbled by everyone's wonderful feedback.

Paul, I am glad I could help. If you want, I could create the information card for you, if you are not familiar with Illustrator or other graphic software. I am always very eager to help out a project that has special meaning such as your B-17 does. Just let me know!

Michael: How very kind of you to do that! Yes I would like that very much. I'm on the road for the next two weeks so let me get my thoughts together and I'll get back to you. Paul

Great job - very well done Mike! 👍 A quick question, how is the fit of the kit itself?
17 April 2018, 14:51

I think the Viggen splinter camo is one of the best looking paintjobs in aircraft history and you absolutely nailed it. Very well done!

Thanks Paul, Sebastian, ice, David, Neuling, Daniel, and Miroslav! Looks like I missed some of these comments back when I originally posted this album.

Sebastian, I know this is a long delay in answering, I apologize! Once this album fell down my wall I just never checked it. Anyway, I had no real issues with this kit as far as fitment is concerned. I remember using a little putty and sanding, but nothing major.

Thanks DOnald, Eugen, Roland, Neuling, and Kees!

This is one of my favorite all-time builds for me, not only because the model turned out very nice, but the sense of accomplishment with applying that camo is very satisfying. 🙂

I have a Viggen in the stash. Every time I think about doing it, I look at that pattern and say NOPE! Im gonna have to get the decals for the gray version. LOL

This is a great nice copy of a Saab Viggen .... what did you do a fantastic job with the camouflage scheme, masterpiece!

potez452
first class painting !! bravo
23 November 2018, 22:59
Michael Phillips
Thanks Jos and potez! The camo was tedious and labor intensive to do, but was well worth it in the end.

Donald, I feel ya! I will someday do a JA interceptor Viggen, and it will definitely be in the gray scheme. One of these "Fields and Meadows" camo schemes in my collection is enough! LOL
