The build

The MLG comprises... a LOT of parts ! I would recommend to assemble, paint and weather them before setting them in the lower fuselage.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/5/5/6/531556-28526-12-720.jpg)
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/5/5/7/531557-28526-85-720.jpg)

![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/9/8/1/531981-28526-73-720.jpg)
So here are the main subassemblies nicely tucked in the lower fuselage. Let a good night sleep for the curing glue !
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/9/8/2/531982-28526-22-720.jpg)
And now for the next step, some more subassemblies...
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/9/8/3/531983-28526-45-720.jpg)
... et voilà ! very good fit overall, but proceed with care and caution to put together this many big parts.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/9/8/4/531984-28526-72-720.jpg)
With the main control surfaces
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/9/8/5/531985-28526-24-720.jpg)
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/9/8/6/531986-28526-56-720.jpg)
It's a big, big bird 😄

Usually i prime in light grey than pre-shade. This time i'm practicing black basing and marbling.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/7/0/8/539708-28526-39-720.jpg)
To render the blueish shade of the Foxhound, the marbling is made using Tamiya light blue.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/7/0/9/539709-28526-71-720.jpg)
Some desert yellow and some nato brown are used in certain area to add grime and undertones.
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/7/0/2/539702-28526-74-720.jpg)
Main paint job done, some details next
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/7/0/5/539705-28526-49-720.jpg)
Pretty hard to not overdo but in the end i like the balance btw the marbling and the overcoat
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/7/0/6/539706-28526-43-720.jpg)
Notice how the top of the intakes aft sections are modeled "cleaner" : they usually are not stepped on by the ground crew. That detail i picked from an advanced modeler who displayed an AMAZING 1:48 Mig-31 in the last exhibit i visited. Thanks to him !
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/7/0/4/539704-28526-24-720.jpg)
You barely see the beige and brown marbling but it's there !
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/7/0/1/539701-28526-42-720.jpg)
The whole painting process took from marbling to the main detailing about 3.5 hours, of them 2 to marble properly. I marvel at the people who model this beast in 1:48!
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/7/0/3/539703-28526-21-720.jpg)
The engines need more staining and heat stressing. For the next time !
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/2/3/8/544238-28526-90-720.jpg)
Time to look after the stores, like this R-33... a whooping 13 pieces for a single one of the 4 provided in the kit !
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/2/3/6/544236-28526-99-720.jpg)
And the other 3, masked and ready for the next coat.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/2/3/5/544235-28526-24-720.jpg)
Worth it 😄
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/2/3/7/544237-28526-26-720.jpg)
4x Worth it 😄
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/2/4/2/544242-28526-22-720.jpg)
The stencil sheet is labelled from 1 to... over 200 ! Not quite 9'000 but still.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/2/4/1/544241-28526-47-720.jpg)
Blue 61 that'll be.
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/2/4/0/544240-28526-81-720.jpg)
![Album image #35 Album image #35](/albums/img/2/3/9/544239-28526-48-720.jpg)
The engines : first tamiya gloss black, than Alclad stainless steel, then brushed with metalic blue, bronze and copper, and finally an overcoat of thinned mat black.
![Album image #36 Album image #36](/albums/img/0/9/9/556099-28526-27-720.jpg)
Final reveal !
![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/1/0/0/556100-28526-73-720.jpg)
Sticking those tiny toothbrush threads to model the electrostatic discharger was a small challenge, well worth it !

And it's done ! Proud to present my best work (so far^^) and of course angrily frustrated at all the little messed up details. C'est la vie😉 hope you enjoy it !
Btw Happy new year everyone !!

Album info
The Mig-31 is a pretty relevant aircraft in aviation history, not least for the many altitude and speed records she holds.
The Trumpeter kit is amazing, providing an awesome level of details oob and a very good fit. It simply begs you to spend hours to make every little part stand out !
