USCG "Seawolf" - If Airwolf joined the Coast Guard
What-If: Airwolf joins the USCG HITRON squadron. Hey, the Bell 222 and MH-68 do look pretty similar.
Trying to make this….
……look like this!
Main pieces of the cockpit/interior. So much for Dom’s workstation in the back...
Instrument panel. Wrong shape, wrong gauges and dials, doesn’t fit properly...
Pilot and copilot figures. Pretty good from the front...
...but not so great from the side...
This one isn’t much better.
Masked in preparation to paint the opaque yet metallic and glassy visor.
More masking.
Minor touch up still needed, but the visor actually came out pretty well.
Another view.
No gaps, but the left and right sides of the fuselage don't match up very well.
Additional view of the poor fit. The top is the worst. At least other mismatched sections will be covered by other parts (missile launcher on the belly, nose cover, etc.)
Looks like the main rotor will sit a bit tilted as well.
Finally primed and sanded for painting!
Slight change in plans - feet first, then painting.
White first. So far, so good.
Now for the red. Masking fail…sigh…
Looks like we’ll be respraying the white on both sides.
Taking masking a bit more seriously this time.
Some touch up still needed but this round went way better…
…except for me knocking off the tail rotor. Sigh. At least it’ll be easier to remove the Micro-Mask now…
Belly finally painted black after another marathon masking session. More touching up needed but overall it worked pretty well. Finally feels like I’m making some real progress!
Need to clean up in front of and inside the air intakes on both sides.
Overall, looks pretty goodaside from the air intakes.
The micro-mask spread farther than intended.
Fun discovery - the doors and floor windows don’t line up the same way on both sides.

Quick question, is it possible to build a Bell-222 heli from the parts? There would have to be clear parts for the side windows for a regular Bell-222.
I used to have the Aoshima kit (same moulds), but I was 15 y.o at the time, a looong time ago, so I don't remember what the sprues looked like.

I think so, but I'm not sure about the wheel housings, since the Airwolf engine parts make the body wider. Double check the instructions posted for the kit - it shows the sprues. The kit does come with all the side windows for a regular Bell 222 as well as the regular passenger cabin in the back.
