Char B1 WIP
The tank itself is composed of only 5 resin parts: the turret, main hull, two sponsons, rear, and exhaust pipes. The fit on all of them requires a lot of work.
There is no floor to this kit at all!
The engine deck is rather bare of details. Presumably everything will have to be scratch built.
Kit parts installed, except for tracks. The gun mantlet was missing, so I'm going to have to make the tank even more beat up than I originally intended to justify its absence.
Added some bits and bobs on the rear deck. I think it's ready to paint.
First stage of paint is down. A subtly modulated coat of several tones of rust.
Camo on.
Second colour of camo on.
Thick black lines between the colours help hide the mask shifting.
Battle damage!
This is the other side, the one that's supposed to have caught fire.
Some decals from the spares box. The kit did not include any.
A bit of pigments and it really comes to life.
Tracks are on. As with the rest of the model, they were very challenging to assemble..
Tracks are on. The iron oxide effect isn't as pronounced as I expected, I'm going to have to weather them a lot more.
Rubbed some pigments into the tracks and fixed up a bit of the fire damage. It's gradually fading as I apply more layers of varnish.
Starting out with the terrain.
Applying damage from the tracks and soot on the ground from fire.
Planting all this grass took forever.
The tracks left by the tank need more work.
The opposite side, with even more grass.
Blended the boundary between completely burned grass and the untouched grass a little. Going to have to work in a lot more pigments.
Added more mud to make the impressions appear deeper. On the other hand, the track prints have been irreversibly lost.
