prototype version V-24 of Mi-24
this is what started with 1/2 old kit from Italeri never finished
this is what started with 1/2 spare part from heller kit
working first on the cockpit as it will need major improvement. Heller propostion is wrong 2 sits in the back instead of one, all cockpit arrangement wrong.
trying to do some scratch build with plastic card, a bit of polystiren, and a bit of whatever I found on my workbench
first test fit
need to rework the 2 cockpit. it will note be accurate but will do the job.
second test fit
adding sits and trying to do the computer on the tribord side of the back sit.
some detail for the back computers
about to cut the Italeri main body....
done
cockipt glued and dry fit on the main body
looked good
masking the canopy. It is not a V-22 (actually late Mi-24A late version) but i am not yet able to shape cockipit windows so it will do.
ok here we are
wrong length the cockipt of heller is too long and need to be cut down
🙁 cutting again destroying at the same time the internal details....
refit and glueing. it seem better now. Anyway there is no way i get it totally right. after all it my first attempt to do a conversion...
sanding and adjusting the wheel area
comparsion with an old Mi-24 kit (heller) made in 2005 🙂
repainted and preshaded
🙂 comparison between Nieuport 23 Tu-22 and Mi-24 all @ 1/72

After a quick check with blue print, the cockpit was obviously too long. I had to remove again the heller cockpit bit and cut 5mm to adapt it to the italeri body. Was long and painfull but it appears to look more to the original blue print.

I will follow it with a great interest.
Not for the V24 but for a Mi-24A...

Objet 240 ou 245?
Parce qu'ils ne sont pas de la même longueur et le 245 est plus long

regarding the version it will be it was quite difficult to adjust the Heller cockpit to the Italeri, lot of gluing cutting and adjusting. But it will be rather tend to the version 240.

as per Marc comment several prototype length were developped. this try to represent and early intermediate prototype most probably 245 with main caracteristic of the Mi-24A but with in particular straight armament pod you will notice.

I used AKAN paint to try to stick to specific coloring, I hope it look realistic.

the final is far from being perfect, from the begining it was based on seriously damaged oldies kits with broken and lost parts.
I enjoyed making it, hope it illustrate the long creation process that led to the modern Mi-24. Please give me your thought on it.

The canopy looks very fine like the reference picture. It only seems that the rotor has some differences.
