The design of the "Wespe" was based on Pz.kpfw. II, but the engine was moved forward shortening the drive shaft and making room for a large open fighting compartment at the rear. This in turn lowered the silhouette considerably. The "Wasp" was to be an interim project, but it served (from 1943) until the end of the war
The machine below "fought" on the Italian front in 1944 at Anzio.
