As will this..
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/4/7/0/1265470-71874-41-720.jpg)
Tedious, but worth it.

This suspension could be better
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/4/7/3/1265473-71874-50-720.jpg)
This too...

Tubing, wire and a cutting of guitar string
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/4/7/4/1265474-71874-15-720.jpg)
The string goes in the tubing and the wire goes around it.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/4/7/8/1265478-71874-84-720.jpg)
This is what they will look like. Much better!
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/4/5/5/1265455-71874-96-720.jpg)
Rear suspension done too. This looks much better than the original.

![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/4/4/4/1265444-71874-25-720.jpg)
Had some spare PE parts left over from a previous kit. I filed the inside down with a dremel to fit. And added disc markings.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/4/4/5/1265445-71874-68-720.jpg)
Much improved!
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/4/5/7/1265457-71874-26-720.jpg)
Keeping the kit chrome. Added some Tamiya black panel wash to them to tone them down a little.

![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/4/5/6/1265456-71874-30-720.jpg)
Engine coming along nicely. The red is my own mix of Chevy Engine Red. It is Tamiya X6 and X7 red and orange at a 4:3 ratio. For some reason it looks much more red in photos than in real life.

Base coat of SMS Jet Black over Mr Surfacer. Issues with the airbrush meant a lot of orange peel so I've hit it with 4000 and 6000.
![Album image #63 Album image #63](/albums/img/6/1/8/1307618-71874-65-720.jpg)
A lot of burn through, but I'll be laying down another base coat.
![Album image #64 Album image #64](/albums/img/7/0/2/1323702-71874-14-720.jpg)
Base coat reapplied, this time using SMS Jet Black + Mr Levelling Thinners. Happy with the result considering the current humidity. May need to hit it with some wet sanding though.

8000 wet sand done. Time for a top coat me thinks.
![Album image #71 Album image #71](/albums/img/9/4/7/1330947-71874-82-720.jpg)
Top coat done in SMS Pearl Purple Grape. Unfortunately the humidity and hot temperatures, combined with having to paint outside, meant that it was a sandy finish with the paint drying before it hit the model.
![Album image #72 Album image #72](/albums/img/9/4/8/1330948-71874-18-720.jpg)
Will hit it with some Mr Levelling Thinners to see if it smooths out, otherwise I'll have to wet sand it and go again.
![Album image #73 Album image #73](/albums/img/9/4/9/1330949-71874-54-720.jpg)
Imperfections, for all to see.
![Album image #74 Album image #74](/albums/img/9/5/0/1330950-71874-72-720.jpg)
![Album image #75 Album image #75](/albums/img/9/5/1/1330951-71874-35-720.jpg)
So, after this terrible result, I sprayed a coat of Mr Levelling Thinners and allowed it to dry. I then wet sanded it and applied another coat of SMS Pearl Purple Grape thinned down with Mr Levelling Thinners at about 50/50.
![Album image #76 Album image #76](/albums/img/7/4/0/1336740-71874-83-720.jpg)
After that, I wet sanded again with 6000, 8000 and 12000. This is the rault
![Album image #77 Album image #77](/albums/img/7/4/1/1336741-71874-74-720.jpg)

Nice start. My Dad had a '66 when I was a kid. My brother had a '65 Super Sport when we were in high school. Following.

Thanks guys! It's a fun build István, this one is coming together fairly quickly. Looking forward to doing the body. I'll try to do your dad and brother proud with this one Bill.

Uneven blade spacing on the fan makes them much quieter. Makes a big difference. If you look closely at modern electric fans they're often uneven as well.

Yeah really wishing I had this knowledge prior to changing the fan. Seems to be detracting from the rest of the build.

Great looking car. I think your'e making the best out of this kit. Question: what is the firing order of a Chevy V8?
26 July 2022, 07:38
![](/profiles/img/71874-861-s.jpg)
Different to this one, but I'd already messed up the fan so I wasn't too fussed about the firing order.

@Peter Muldoon. I saw, what wire did you use. You wrote, "Sanded back the existing distributor connectors and replaced them with rubber tubing"- that rubber tubing was the question 😉

@Lex Jassies .... You can't tell that generally. It depends on the year of built and the engine size. I think, you are able to look it up on the internet "firing order v8 chevrolet". It should not be that problem at all!
Here you are (rolling my eyes a little. It costs me seconds on google - included wiring diagrams!)
Chevy Small Block V8 engines (265,283, 302, 327, 350, 400) is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
Chevy Big Block V8 engines (396, 406, 427, 454) is the same as the small blocks: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
Chevy LS engines (LS1 to LS7) is different than SB or BB V8 engines. It is 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3.
Chevy marine engine with REVERSE rotation is 1-2-7-5-6-3-4-8.

Christian W: It didn't take me more than a few seconds either. I actually asked the question more because I noticed that Peter did it in his own way.
But he has already indicated that he is satisfied with this. So it's fine 👍

I did research the firing order but for some reason it slipped my mind while doing the model. I'm happy with the outcome. As I say, I already messed up the fan, so what's a messed up firing order too lol. I think I will leave the bonnet/hood closed on this one.

István, that tubing is leftover from a Tamiya bike kit. Not actually sure what gauge it is. I should measure it because I would love to buy some more.

It's always challenging, to get the right order in scale. Sometimes, it drives me nuts.
Everything is fine.

Look Peter you can learn a lot from these guys but do remember this is your build
And whed time you will get better
Don't worry about if your not completely happy whed this build
I get a few kits the same if thay are cheap
And build one look at it if im not happy then it goes on the shelf
It has nothing to do whed what othets think
Its all a matter of what I think
Build your build your way
If you like it
Its good
The next one will be better
In my case I'm my biggest criticism
Please build what you like don't let anyone take that away from you
And enjoy what you do
some of my mates here
Build out there builds it takes time and courage
But that's were you learn
But we all start somewhere
Most important is you are happy enjoy what you do
Skills only come from doing
Only people that don't try nevern make mistakes
A mistake is only when your not happy whed it

Thanks Martin
There is many skills here I enjoy all my mates here on scalemates
Its been a great forum for me
Whed many ideas
And inspirations
Let's keep it that way
Some of my favourite builds here are the ones I may not agree whed at first
But has tough me alot
I don't have to take it all on board
But its sencretly been an inspiration
I love it Here
For the positive inspiration I got so fare
Thanks to all here
And let's keep.it that way

Thanks Jv, I do build for myself, but as soon as you put anything into a public forum you are faced with criticism. Just have to take it on board and learn from it. But at the end of the day it is my build so I can do whatever I like with it. 😉

It certainly wasn't meant as a criticism, but I was wondering if you were aware of it. You immediately gave me a clear answer and I wanted to leave it at that. If you're happy then who am I to moan about it.
I also make mistakes and have no problem if one of the scalemates pointing this out to me (see my album of the Pak75).
After 62 years of model building I'm still learning.
Apart from that; I've looked at your albums and I think you make very nice models 👍. As a long term biker I really love your Yamaha Virago/Bobber build 🙂

Thanks Lex, the Virago was a fun build. Always learning and loving the hobby. I'll always be my own worst critic. If I didn't enjoy the feedback I wouldn't post here. 🤓

that idea with the chromfoil on the seat before attaching the rear cover is perfect!

The whole stuff looks fantastic. But the interior is my favorite part!

Thanks Bob! It's quite interesting, it changes colour depending on the light. It's much brighter when the sun hits it. I was considering a coat of clear purple over it, but now I'm undecided as the colour keeps growing on me.

It is a colour I could have chosen 😄
You are making great progress with your builds Young Muldoon. Each one is exponentially better than the one before. You really earned to be proud 👍
