Hi James C and John 🙂 Welcome aboard mates 👍 John, thanks very much. It's nice to build a more recently manufactured kit, the fit is substantially better than what I'm used to tackling normally! 😆 This is my first ever HobbyBoss kit and I'm liking it so far.

I hear you. I'm working on the old Monogram razorback and it was a lot of work. It was actually going really well, then the decals were a disaster. That's what I get for using old decals that were in an attic for several years. Won't make that mistake again! I hear HobbyBoss is hit or miss, but looks like you have a winner there. 👍

Hi Peter K and Vincent 🙂 Thanks for stopping by you're both very kind. Just to confirm @Vincent I never masked any of the camo - it's all freehand painted with a hairy stick. And thanks to those for the most recent likes too 👍

You're all super kind to stop by and comment on my efforts, very much appreciated. I was grumbling to myself about all the masking of stripes being a bit of a pain in my butt... However Gary, indeed, your point is very pertinent and poignant - thanks mate 🙂 👍

I just love the details you put into the cockpit, and the weathering job. The most impressive was the hand-painting of the camo for me - nice, smooth and thin so as not to flood the panel lines. That is much harder to achieve than masking and airbrushing IMHO - nicely done!

The wear & tear and the distressing is excellent. It looks like its done plenty of sorties 🙂 Love the aluminium coming through in the chips and the not perfect invasion stripes. Did you use an aluminium chipping pencil or have you painted all those chips Neil??

Hi Mr James 🙂 thanks very much. Yes, that was the look I was aiming for, war torn and a bit hasty in invasion markings too. it actually hurt to scrub up my nice clean painted black and white stripes! 😂 Though in retrospect I probably should have made them look even more slap dash!
The chips and general wear and tear are each individually hand painted. I've not got any chipping medium or tried that hairspray technique - though I plan to at some point. I imagined when adding the marks that you'd see both a green primer and the steel airframe too. Maybe not historically accurate I accept of course 👍🙂

Hi Vincent, thanks very much 😁 you're very kind.
The scheme is based on one of the kit options; Ltd Col Rrancis Gabreski, June 1944. However instead of airbrushing the camouflage exactly as shown. I just decided to brush paint the green in my own interpretation... I hold my hands up as I have a habit of doing things with a large dollop of artistic licence. I am not very good at realism in my endeavours; though I did decide to paint 'messed up' invasion stripes. Rather than use the clean decals! 🤣

Thanks very much! You make me feel very proud ☺️ It's true that I do enjoy parking the airbrush for some freehand camouflage, hairy stick action! 😁 So really humbled that you talented mates appreciate and would comment 👍

Thanks John, Harvey, J35J, James C and Mark (only you Mark could get a Basil Brush reference in to a Thunderbolt build!!... Although my wife would say I'm daft as one for sure mate! 😂🤣). It's always appreciated when your peers say such nice stuff! I promise I did freehand paint the camouflage John, I even took pictures to prove it mate! 😁 And thanks to all of you for the likes also 👍

Thanks very much Nathan and Rando, I did enjoy this build a lot. It's a very nice kit in my opinion. Goes together well and made a welcome change from my usual wrestling with an oldie! Something I know you guys understand also 😉 🙂 Thanks everyone for the likes too 👍
