Flying Sub - Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea TV Series

Album image #1
Forgot to take the picture before removing the parts from the sprues. The kit comes with two more "vehicles" from the Voyage to the bottom of the Sea TV Series: A batisphere and a minisub.

Album image #2
The interior is a printed carboard which is necessary to fold and glue with PVA.

Album image #3
I kind of brush paint silver on the sides, just in case.

Album image #4
Placed some liquid mask on windshields and lateral lights.

Album image #5
Started painting the Flying Sub, dive bell and minisub. By references in the internet, minisub was red and dive bell was yellow with a black stripe.

Album image #6
Painting in progress.

Album image #7
The Flying Sub painting became very good!

Album image #8
I painted the map of the Flying Sub base from the internal part of it, and became really good.

Album image #9
All components of the kit painted and finished.

Album image #10
Final result. Easy kit. Doesn't take me too long.

Album info

ne of the most recognizable and beloved of our vehicles is the Flying Sub that was included in season 2 of the 1964 TV series “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”. The Flying Sub (FS-1) was supposed to resemble a stingray, and indeed, it was sometimes nicknamed “Stingray” by its pilots. Powered by two massive solid-fuel turbine engines the FS-1 was designed originally as a test bed for hybrid air/sea vehicle technology by both the U.S. Air Force and Navy.

After a great deal of bureaucratic wrangling between the two defense branches, the Navy officially took sole possession of the FS-1 and used it to conduct a variety of research projects. It quickly became clear, after photos were published in “National Geographic”, that the public had a strong fascination with the ship. An unprecedented mountain of letters inquiring about the Flying Sub prompted the Navy to allow the ship to be loaned out for filming of the “Voyage” T.V. series.
