Grumman F8F-1 Bearcat (Sword)
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/1/5/1/1477151-10105-48-720.jpg)
The Sword kit has a reasonably nice rendition of the engine in resin.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/1/5/0/1477150-10105-41-720.jpg)
These big honking ejection towers need to go bye-bye before the engine can go in.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/1/5/2/1477152-10105-94-720.jpg)
A little Alclad, some Gunze, and a Future wash (liquid skill) and the engine looks OK.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/1/5/3/1477153-10105-43-720.jpg)
The cockpit was enhanced by instrument and control decals, and some photoetch rudder pedal and seat harnesses.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/1/5/5/1477155-10105-37-720.jpg)
A better view of the harnesses.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/1/5/4/1477154-10105-37-720.jpg)
I drilled out the lightening holes in the tailwheel as they are quite prominent.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/1/5/6/1477156-10105-24-720.jpg)
Basic assembly complete. Not much filler was required, the fit was quite good.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/1/5/7/1477157-10105-62-720.jpg)
When you drill out the axle holes and go too far (i.e. right on through) you need to fix your mistake. A couple of styrene discs made with a punch and die set came to the rescue.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/1/5/8/1477158-10105-95-720.jpg)
Up on her legs. I added some additional actuator struts to the main gear.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/1/5/9/1477159-10105-96-720.jpg)
I also added the small vanes in the intakes on the leading edge of the wings.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/1/6/0/1477160-10105-52-720.jpg)
The Glossy Sea Blue is from MRP - very smooth and glossy finish.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/1/6/3/1477163-10105-45-720.jpg)
Another view.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/1/6/1/1477161-10105-83-720.jpg)
The stickers came from Starfighter decals. I'm not sure that the background to the Felix the Cat artwork is white - many sources show this as yellow.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/1/6/2/1477162-10105-33-720.jpg)
The decals reacted beautifully to the decal solvents from Microscale.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/1/6/4/1477164-10105-84-720.jpg)
Adding the gun sight, wheels, gear doors, wing pylons, drop tank, and the main gear strut torque links.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/1/6/5/1477165-10105-90-720.jpg)
I used a semi-gloss clear to provide, in my view, a more realistic "scale gloss."
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/1/6/6/1477166-10105-48-720.jpg)
Finishing the prop.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/1/6/7/1477167-10105-57-720.jpg)
The kit's rollover structure is pretty lame, and doesn't really look like the real thing.
![Album image #19 Album image #19](/albums/img/1/6/8/1477168-10105-29-720.jpg)
So I built a new one from card stock and styrene rod.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/1/6/9/1477169-10105-58-720.jpg)
Adding the rest of the bits including the canopy, rockets, prop, whip antenna, and aerial wire.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/1/7/0/1477170-10105-65-720.jpg)
This was a quick build, and I hope you enjoy the rest of the photos. Cheers!

How do you see when you're driving this baby?

A couple of late war hot rods! The Sea Fury is the Aki Products resin kit that I built a while back.

Hi mates, here's a quick build I did at the end of last year. It's the Sword 1:72 F8F-1 Bearcat. It's really a nice little kit and went together well. I didn't have to add too much extra detail but I couldn't resist tweaking a few things. Hope you enjoy the pictures. Cheers, Bill
