My October 2024 project is finally over. This model is not a precise depiction of a historical aircraft but rather a collective image of #f100supersabre planes participated in the Vietnam conflict.
The 1:72 model of Trumpeter combines quite outdated low-quality main parts (that I'm not able and willing to rework) and very detailed small parts. To further enhance the details (and add to the required working hours 🙂 I replaced the wheels, the ordnance, and the front tube with aftermarket parts. The decals are custom, too. The model looks freshly painted with no weathering, because I focus on technology and not history.
Of course I know about the roles that the Hun served during the conflict, and about special roles of "Family model" (F-100F). I decided not to proceed with the Wild Weasel or Misty because I don't have proper ordnance or pilons for it. I had an idea to make a typical CAS configuration but was not able to find napalm canisters necessary for it. So I choose a generic air interdiction loadout with four M117.
The model was primed with Vallejo primer and painted with water-based acrylics made by Vallejo, AK Interactive, and Hataka. For the first time, I used pre-cut camouflage masks from LF Models, and they worked out exceptionally well (but unfortunately, the patterns are a little bit different from the reference photos).
I hope you like the result.
