D9R DOOBI

This is the D9R excellent kit from Meng in 1/35. I used colors as follow: metallic color, various tones of rust, then Vallejo Golden yellow base and finally, ModelMaster US/Marines sand color.

I used the hairspray technique for the chips, so that the rust and yellow color would show through the final finish. This was followed by more chips using the sponge technique. This was then followed by filters, washes, protection flat coat and then, pigments in the end.

I had to redo the blade 3 times because of some problems with the underlying metallic paint finish cracking (using Alclad steel). On the third try, I got fed up by the Alclad problems, I bought a can of auto paint in a can and used this instead with no problems, although the blade is not to my liking!
