I'm sooo close to buying this kit. I won't be able to resist after seeing this build.

This one is a ways out, but I could be convinced to move it up. Maybe a 5th gen aircraft group build is worth considering?

future 5-th gen GB sounds excellent, as I have exactly this category next in my build-plan after the MiG's! 🙂

Hmmm, maybe a 5th Gen group build starting in January would work...

Slavo you have a 5th gen in mind? strange times😉 Seems a lot of people here are exploring new topics lately 👍 I might store my nearly finished battle penguin till next year or maybe get a raptor...anyway I would join in!

Well it´s definitely not the engines this time that pull me towards 5th gen, and certainly not the shape of the F-35 , but trying the "raptor sheen" & GaGa-canopy create a sort of irresistible pull towards this kind of model 🙂 If you allow some time to get the MiG´s off the table (and the rest of the room +/- filled by parts & sub-assemblies) JAN sounds feasible, so I´m totally IN!

Well alrighty then! Let's do this... I will set up a GB with a start date of Jan 1st until, say, July 1st? No need to start right at Jan 1, you can join in the fun at any time in that 6 month period. My J-20 is actually only on order via slow boat from HK, so it might be here a bit later than January.

I'm planning to build my F-22 in the beginning of next year, so I'll probably join as well.

Perfect Michael... and a great idea to continue those awesome GB here on SCM...maybe I fall in, you'll never know until I start 😄! 😉

Darn... no F-35C yet available in 72nd scale... and I'm not building not-Navy 😄

OK, I am going to set up the 5th Gen GB here soon. One quick idea, in order to increase the amount of subjects we can choose from, do you guys think we should maybe add UAVs? My thought is "Rise of the Machines", 5th Gen Aircraft and UAVs. Kind of all goes together with a "future" theme. Thoughts?

I vote Yes for UAVs because my wife might kill me if I order that J-20 kit 😄

Yep, great idea to widen the field! Would also allow stealth helos like the comanche or the black black hawk (if there are any models for this anyway)
But I would exclude SciFi stuff if titling is rule of the machines 🙂

Fully agree exclusion of plain Sci-fi.

For me, the important thing is that it will be possible to depict a hypothetical appearance of a plane that had physical prototypes flying, but did not make series as it may have looked if it was introduced to active service 🙂

So my humble suggestion would be:

5-th generation aircraft or prototypes in or intended for active service
Historic prototypes or hypothetical stealth aircraft that would belong to 5-th gen (F-23, but also F-19, Mig-37 Ferret, JSF...) even if there were no flying prototypes
Current or future drones (but not old or target drones, like the Hellcat from the Battle of Palmdale... 😉 )
Future 5-th gen aircraft (FCAS, Tempest...)

TBD - Prototypes & X-planes that contributed to development of post-4th gen tech (X-29, Su-47, MiG 1.44...)

A lot of that would require scratch or heavy mods, but that are my general thoughts and there are talented & courageous people out there (I have met modeller who converted a Su-30 to Su-34 some time ago... 😮 )...

Hmm, lots of possibilities ...

Maybe we could simplify that to:
Every actual flying design (must not have actually flown) designed for stealth, featuring an internal weapons bay (exception: unarmed stealth aircraft)
What-ifs are ok, fictive models not (mig 37 is fiction btw)

That would include the mig1.44, the F-15SE and I guess even the Bone but I could live with those 🙂

PS: Su 30 to Su 34 conversion? Slightly masochistic 😄

Found it. I'll go a bit out of my 72nd comfort zone and build the Kitty Hawk 1:48 F-35C. I read that the C its about to become operational in 2021, so looking forward to "Fear the Bones" color scheme 🙂

I could move up my T-50 prototype or the MiG 1.44 up the queue, provided that there is a lot of time for the GB. I mean, it takes me royghly a year to complete a kit so if the date would be say the 31st of December I might be able to complete it. If not, still I'll be a vivid fan of the GB, lots of interesting kits to see.

Lots of good ideas here! So Maciej brings up a good point. Should this be a 6 month or full year GB?

I am thinking to keep it to 5th Gen, Stealth, 5th Gen or Stealth prototypes (Historical, no fiction) and UAVs. I am OK with "what ifs" but no fiction or sci-fi. No target drones. Honestly, as long as someone's project is within the spirit of the overall theme, I am cool with it.

Speaking for myself, as long as an F-23 (not just YF-23) "what if" is OK, its the only thing I need to hear to grab myself a little distraction from the current MiG-31 mammoth-build... 😄

Also, since 5-th gen takes long to develop & bring to service in real life, if it´s open 12 months, it´s actually more realistic!

Could be interesting 👍 I have the Hobbyboss YF-23 that's been tempting me from the stash.
5 January 2021, 17:03
Jos Jansen
Mmmmm...no 5th gen fighter in stash, any suggestions?

Well, here are some options I quickly came up with based on what I think this will include:

F-22
YF-23
F-35A/B/C
J-20
FC-31
T-50 PAK-FA
Su-57
F-117A
B-2
MQ-1
RQ-4
RQ-7
MQ-8B
MQ-9
MQ-25
XB-47

I am sure there are some I am missing, but this would be a good starter list...

Jos, I would really like to see you tackle a Raptor.

Slavo's what-if F-23A sounds pretty cool.

My entry will be a T-50 PAK FA from Zvezda (which is russian for Star). If things go my way, a what if MiG 1.44 might join the party.

Nice list Michael!
