Swedish Strv 103C is a Cold War MBT which for its time came with more than one revolutionary feature. The most obvious is the lack of turret, the tank has more the character of an self propelled tank killer but was a main battle tank developed for fighting a invading Soviet force in Swedish terrain.
I spiced up my kit with all the photo etch I could get my hands on so it feels like it's almost as much etch as plastic now.

Smoke launchers (8 of them in total) quite tricky to get them somewhat circular...

Update 2017-04-241:35
I thought the exhaust looked a bit dull as it came so I gave it some depth

Nice! I'll try to remember to update as it goes along, pretty slow progress though, since the rest of my life slows it down =oP

I'm in, especially that I have this one on the bench right now. Only I'm currently finishing the camo (no photos as yet). Seem like you have almost exactly the same set for this kit😉 As far as the etching goes I encountered no problems, only the mouldings are not the best with quite some flash and ejector marks.
So far looks good 🙂

It depends wether you are airbrushing or just brushing the paint on. But after a week of sitting on it I can say, that there is nothing some patience and Tamiya masking tape can't get painted 🙂 If you're airbrushing J's Work masks for this model might be helpful.

I'm airbrushing, but new to it so I'm taking it slow...I got a couple of other projects qued up to give me some practice with the AB.
Where could I find the J's Work masks? I'm having a hard time finding masks for the 103...

Nice Jose! I'll try to remember to update as much as possible, I'm quite new to photo etch but I think it's coming along nicely

It seems that J's Work has no distributor in northern part of Europe, you might try your luck on ebay. Can't think of anything else 🙂

Definitely polish model shop Jadar Hobby (jadarhobby.pl) has them, but I don't know how they handle international orders (if they do at all, honestly). And I bet some German ones too😉

Some updates made, I've been making new albums for each update. It seems now like I've saved up all the tiny parts to the end, not so much etch remains but it's all veeeery tiny and time consuming...
Wojciech - I managed to get my hands on that paint mask from Jadar, looks like I got the last one! Great tip, thanks!

@Andreas - that's great! With all the stuff going on this tank i might not be ideal solution, but it helps a lot. However - be prepared for several touch-ups 🙂 If the plastic parts were only a little cleaner and neater this model would be a real pleasure to work on! So far so good, keep up the good work 🙂

Thanks Wojciech! I was thinking about that too, the mask might be too god whit all the PE on, I was thinking about using it for outlining the segments and maybe use plastic bags or something without adhesive to cover to avoid getting lots of small parts stuck in the mask when removing it...

I did similar thing - mainly outlined the camo with this mask, but afterwards I used normal Tamiya masking tape to correct the lines and mask the other areas. I takes some time, but I have no problems with flaking paint or small PE details sticking to the tape. Though I did change some camo spots, so I can avoid sticking the tape to some fragile details. It probably takes some try & error 🙂

Update - primed it, with UMP primer, I was told to use that given the amount of etch...I came to like i all black, it looks mean. It will be put on hold for a while as I try out some methods on my R&D-model (pics in "the painting" album.

Thanks Wojciech! Even though I like the mean looking black I think I'll proceed with the four-tone camouflage =o)
Even though I suspect it will be something of a challenge...

I was thinking the same, but it was not that bad 🙂 And if I didn't miscalculate the light green paint - I might have even said that it was quite pleasant 🙂 By the way I finished mine and will be posting photos as soon as I make them. So far tank only, the base is in its concept stage so far 🙂

Nice! Looking forward to your pictures! I took the easy way and will use Mr Paint Swedish colors, when reading about it they seem to be a pretty close match to the real ones. I used them on my Stridsvagn 121 (Leopard) project to try them out and I like how it turned out.

Finally a short update (pics in the painting album). Managed to paint the base color, now the time consuming work with masking for splinter camo starts...

It's definitely a nice paint job! I think I like the light green shade more, than one I have on my Strv!

I concur with Wojciech, a beautiful paint job and you nailed the colors exactly!

Thanks! I used Mr Paint and they're supposed to be a quite close match to reality. That paint mask I had didn't work out for me so I ended up masking by hand.

I just ordered a bunch of colors with Mr. Paint after having tested the orange combination specially designed for the F-16AM Solo Display. I'm looking forward on using them! Any tips on pressures, cleaning and thinning?

Not really actually, I'm using a low budget compressor and H&S Ultra and haven't had any issues with it, and I haven't thinned it at all, just out of the bottle. Have been cleaning my AB with both AB-cleaner (Vallejo) and with acrylic thinner (Tamiya) with various results, but since it's a lacquer color it usually needs more than the AB-cleaner...
If they weren't so smelly I'd use them all the time...

Well, they smell a lot more than acrylics that's for sure, but not worse than I can sit in my living room when using them, of course with a spray booth with fans. I haven't been able to use them with brush, they're too thin. But they're great, good coverage and nice shades.
