I am very interested in how this kit gies together after I gave up on the Italeri one. Anxious particularly about the flap area at the intakes. According to the instructions Airfix seems to have found a quite smart solution for this.

Wings and tailplane added to fuselage. The fit was good but I added some filler as well. 🙂

Welcome Micky, take a seat! 👍

Michael, I haven't tried to build an Italeri one yet but do have some in my stash for another day. 👍

Now completed, the Harrier is a 3 Sqn RAF Harrier stationed at RAF Wildenrath in 1973. I particularly like the Harrier as I can remember an airshow at RAF Leuchars which my grandfather attended with us in the very early 1970s. He was astounded that an aircraft could hover effectively on a coin, he loved the aircraft and was so impressed with it.

My dad was stationed with Harriers in the RAF between 1976 and 1983 at RAF Wildenrath, RAF Gutersloh, RAF Belize and RAF Wittering.

On 1st April 1911, 3 Sqn was formed as a Company of the Air Battalion of the Royal Engineers. The 2nd Company flew aeroplanes and on 13th May 1912 2nd Company of the Air Battalion, Royal Engineers became 3 Sqn of the Royal Flying Corps.
As the Second World War started 3 Sqn received Hurricanes at Biggin Hill. A brief deployment to France was followed by relocation to Scotland. During 1943, the Squadron replaced the Hurricanes with Hawker Typhoons and switched to the anti-shipping and intruder roles. A switch to Tempests in 1944 saw 3 Squadron destroy 288 V1 flying bombs and move on to the Continent as part of the advance towards Germany.
3 Squadron remained in Germany, converting to Vampires in 1948, Sabres in 1953 and the Hunter in 1956. A short time with Javelin fighters was followed by a long period of Canberra flying, before the Squadron received the Harrier GR1 in the early 1970s at RAF Wildenrath.
In 1977 the Sqn moved to Gutersloh, before relocating to Laarbruch with Harrier GR7s. No. 3 Squadron returned to the UK in the Spring of 1999, arriving at RAF Cottesmore in Rutland.
3 Squadron combined with other RAF and Royal Navy Units to form Joint Force Harrier and undertook a number of deployments on board aircraft carriers including an operational tour to Sierra Leone as part of Operation Basilica. 3 Squadron was also involved in Operation Telic.
On the 31 March 2006 the Squadron moved to RAF Coningsby to become the first front-line RAF Squadron to be equipped with the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Super neat - a very clean build. Just out of curiosity, what was the reason for leaving off the nose cone until the very last step? Was it to avoid breaking the pitot tube?

Neuling
A good one.

@Thomas K, I indeed left the nose off until the end to avoid breaking the pitot tube. However, I still managed to break it off! 🙂
