Special Hobby - Saab JA-37 Viggen Fighter
Gave all parts a wash.
Also realized just how many parts this kit contains!

Some progress made at last!
Nice colorful and detailed cockpit.
This masking job took several evenings to get done...
Turned out pretty good!
Some paint managed to leak under the masking tape, but some of it will be covered by the next layers, the rest can be touched up with a small brush later.

Many more evenings later the next layer of masking is complete!
Some more paint that leaked under the masking tape, think I can fix that later though.
The paint scheme is starting to come together.
One more round of masking then time for the last color for the camo.

Finally, the last layer of the camo pattern painted.
Now just to touch up some places where the paint leaked under the masking tape, then I can continue with the rest of the build. The colors are not as bright in real life as on the photo.

Landing gear done! This was by far the fiddliest step so far!
Finished!
By far the most detailed kit I have built so far, also really happy with the result.
Think I have found a new favorite brand in Special Hobby.
I need to remind myself to think twice before doing a camo scheme by hand again though. 😛

The best ever camo, was the camuflage of the Viggen. I love it. Looking good so far.

I'm building this kit at the moment. You did a great job on the camo masking. I'm using a masking set from DN Models, but it hasn't made it any easier! 😂 The kit itself is beautiful with fantastic details for a 1/72 scale one. I'm definitely going to buy this in 1/48 soon, though not sure if I'll attempt the camo again, 😂.

Every time I see one of the Viggens with its lovely splinter camo, I feel the urge to start the ones in my stash. Beautiful work, especially considering the completely manual tape masking method!

My mates said it all. Nice job.
The new kits from Special Hobby are really gems (I build the Super Mystere which was really lovely), but the more you go back the better a modeller you need be. That shows what an impressive development they made.

Thanks for all the kind words! 🙂
@Jason: I actually bought a masking kit at first as well, but I couldn't get it to fit and eventually managed to rip it.
@Michael: The Super looks cool as well! Would be nice if they released a Draken and Gripen as well. I haven't built any of their older kits, but this one had almost zero fit issues.

Maybe it's not too late to add the missing datalink antenna just behind the vertical fin? 😉

@Michael: For the camo I used Mr. Hobby H309, H58, H47 and Vallejo Air 71.057.
Im not that sure on what blue grey I used, but I think it was Vallejo Air 71.255.
