Thanks Neuling!

Amazing build, love the detail. What tape did you use to mask off for the sanding? Looks thick and rubbery.

CaptGPF
LOL! That tape was a freebie from my Tamiya International magazine subscription! It's not as good as the Yellow Tamiya tape for paint masking, but it's thick enough for sanding and scribing.

Thank you for the kind words, Spanjaard, Michael and Guy! I used the Meng F-4 as a reference for where the rivets had to go, as well as the spacing 😀

The paint shading and panel lines are lovely. Great display pics too

CaptGPF
LOL! I will have to redo that base as it isn't quite accurate compared to a real carrier deck. So many kits, so little time. 😀

Always good to see this one in the feed. I'm going to peer into my unbuilt one's box now…

This hobby never ceases to amaze me, how did you do such a good job with the lines and such on the body and wings? Very nice details

Nathan - ROFL! I know how you feel every time I see someone's build!

Kesa - I if you are referring to the panel lines,I just airbrush them with black / dark gray and then layer of very thin coats of gull gray ( 75%-25% thinner to lacquer paint). Acrylics are nice, but in my experience, it's hard to push the higher thinner to paint ratios. This took me about four to five thin coats till you get a faded panel line. Then on goes the X-22 gloss clear coat - then the flory wash. This gets you the sharp panel lines with the nice faded wear around it. 😀

Interesting, makes me wanna buy an air brush now lol. But thanks for telling me, ill add it that to my modeling notebook when ever i actually get one

CaptGPF
Keno - rattle cans are nice, but nothing beats the precision of an airbrush - though I have seen modellers pop out some gorgeous works of art purely with spray cans!

Album info

VF-84 dates back to WW2 where they served in the Pacific Theatre flying the vaunted F4-U1 Corsairs. Outside of the VF-111 Sundowners, the Jolly Rogers are easily one of the most recognizable squadrons in the USN - made even more infamous in the movie The Final Countdown.
