@Ulf: The Alpha Jet lacked dynamic stability, which a.o. rendered it useless as a gun platform. It could have benefitted from fly-by-wire, but at the time this was just introduced by the F-16 and the Tornado.

They were pretty good at CAS when I did FAC, fast moving small target with a reasonable payload and variety of ordnance.
