Preshading

Album image #21
Lower surface RLM76 paited in a mix of Revell aquacolor, I used the recomended mix in the instructions of Me 262 1/72 from Revel for it but later I found out that they have the color just right for the job, the 49 Hellblau

Album image #22
painting the wheels

Album image #23
first color of the upper cammo in (tamiya XF-5)

Album image #24
I was going mad about color matching research, when I saw that I was stressing myself too much with something that was supose to relax me...

Album image #25
...Also, I could not find good directions for the cammo scheme, soft edge? hard edge?, than I decided to "let it go" and do what pleases me...

Album image #26
... what is the point of having one hobbie if you are not having fun? so I went to my Tamiya colors and pointed out 2 colors that looked nice to me and I taped one hard edge cammo over the model (I realy hate masking...)

Album image #27
After unmasking (I love unmasking as much as I hate masking) that´s how it looks like the model after the painting and one light clear coat, the preshading almost desapeared in the darker color (Tamiya XF-51) and a coat of XF-22

Album image #28
Ready for decals, I have being putting this model away for a long time, I want to finish it for good! there are more models in my stash waiting to be putted together 😉

Album image #29
Decals on, and... they are horrible! too glossy, little bit out of register, they do not respond well to my decal softner (revell decal soft), the number in both sides of the fuselage are in the same side to the cross, when they should be always behind.

Album image #30
Good old wash with oil paint and white spirit.

Album image #31
just messing up everything ^_^

Album image #32
than I cleaned up, almost with no white spirit, just a paper towel dry can take it all when it is well glossed before.

Album image #33
It is finished , now I need to take my time and photograph it properly, also my Skyhawk needs proper pictures after it was finished :-/

Album image #34
Navigation lights, painted silver with clear red / green on top, skid in the uper position as it is normaly seen ready for take off.

Album image #35
I have been needing to post the final pictures for many of my builds, so I´m starting with this one.

Album image #36
Chipping was done with Prismacolor silver pencil.

Album image #37
Some pigments here and there to spice up the things a bit

Album image #38
Navigation lights worked whell, the pitot tube was made out of hipodermic needle of different sizes.

looks very nice. i may have done a bit less chipping, I doubt any Me-163 had many flying hours.... but it looks really good anyway. i have sine Komets in my stash waiting....

Spanjaard, what you said make sense, I think I have looked too much museum pictures and there they are very worn because of the handling assembly/ disassembly processes.

i always remember visiting the Me-262 in Hendon, I was told by somebody working there that the 262 was original, but none of the paint was. The Me-109 next to it, had its original paint.... So museum pieces can be deceiving sometimes😉
the 163 in Gatow museum looks great if you can visit. Too good actually, almost like it got out of the factory the week before😉. who knows, maybe it is the original paint.....
I have seen pictures of others, and they look like hell. but they were war machines, maybe have not been restored, and were painted about 70 years ago, with know knows what quality of paints...
if you look at more modern aircraft, left outside enough time, the paint starts looking like crap, Gatow outside collection is a good example, some of them are in a pitiful state, i am sure they were not like that when in service😉

Album info

one academy "not-so-quick" build ...., it was inexpensive but have shape problems, no cockpit details and bad decals with wrong and also not-so-clear instructions to place them, I putted it aside for long enough, now is time to finish this building for good!
