Nice trick George. Looks great, have to remember that. The Dragon kit wich had this Zimmerit seems to be pretty hard to find for a reasonable price...

The unit mostly relocated the tools to the back of the tank. See here [img1]

Fabian D, yes the new Dragon kit #6494 has the small tile zimmerit (according to the pictures in the reviews). Alas, I 'm stuck with this older kit... 🙁 But, applying my own zimmerit is fun! 🙂 (Too bad the scribing is so tedious...)

Is that the Atak zim? It takes time but looks great. I was planning on building that kit with the Cavalier large squares. I haven't seen any reference photos with large squares though.

Thanks Brian an Kim! 🙂. Brian, the zimmerit is "scratch-built" from paper-thin styrene sheet which I scribe. The scribing is slow and tedious, but no worse (and maybe quicker) than cleaning-up individual track links.

You are insane George. Sorry I didn't read through you posts about the zimmerit earlier. I was in a hurry. I'm tempted to lecture you about spending time on such activities but I can't argue with the results. Does the styrene melt into the kit better than resin? It seems to really hug the vehicle, as it should. The damaged sections look fantastic. Now if you can only patent a "scribe-o-matic" you may be onto something.

Brian, not only does the styrene melt into the model nicely, it "roughs-up" and gets nice texturing. Added bonus! 🙂

What a clever approach to make this zimmerit pattern. What is the plastic sheet thickness you've used?

Thanks Paulo and vorya! 🙂. Paulo, I don't know the thickness for sure, (0.13 mm?) but it is the thinnest I could find, as thin or thinner than a plain piece of printer paper.

To do an early Jagdpanther in action, I think I almost have to go with Abt. 654. Thanks H K for the help!!! 👍

You are welcome. s.pz.jg.abt. 559 also got some early Jagdpanthers; they didn`t modify theirs, so less work 🙂

Thanks Mates! 🙂. I'm hoping a burnt umber wash will bring out the zimmerit and other details. Keeping fingers crossed...

Got the decals on, but the Jagdpanther is on hold until I can get some good tracks. Fruils are on-order 🙂

Excellent work on the self made Zimmerit and painting and weathering as well! I can imagine it took a while to scribe and apply the styrene sheet. How thick is the flat styrene you have used?

Thanks Christian! 🙂 I'm pretty sure the plastic sheet is 0.13 mm (I'm not certain because I got rid of the packaging a long time ago). It was the thinnest I could find (Evergreen Styrene) and about as thick as a regular piece of printer paper. Scribbing was tedeous, but I didn't think it was any worse than cleaning-up individual track links... 🤔 You can also manipulate it to show "battle damage" and wear 🙂

You're a genius Mr. Bacon. May I ask what you used to scribe the zimmerit?

Thanks Mike and Gabor! 🙂.
Mike, I used a scribing tool, which is just a point of steel in a handle. I don't think they cost much, and you can probably pick one up at the hobby shop or craft store. It's a tool I use a lot to create, fix, or deepen panel lines, so it's an important part in my tool box. 🙂
